What is My Chihuahua Puppy Mixed With?

I have a 13 week old puppy who weighs 2.6 pounds. I was told she is a long haired Chihuahua, but her ears are floppy so I know she isn't full Chihuahua. What are your thoughts?

It is very common for pup chihuahuas to have floppy ears. They often perk up after they are 6 months old.

I see a sweet apple head chi!! That face!! TOO SWEET!!!

Did you get papers for the pup?

You can always do a DNA test, but I have had friends who have done them and ended up more confused than ever because so much came back unknown or undetermined.

The pup is adorable and I wish you many, many, many happy adventures together!

No papers, just from a local in the paper. Thank you for telling me about the DNA test. That made me decide not to spend the money on one.

All of my friends who did the tests were disappointed. It is a shame, because, like you, I would love to know more about my boy's background. But then again, all I need to know is how much he loves me and how he snuggles with me on the couch, right!!

Enjoy your sweet baby!!

The ears may stand up as the puppy matures. As far as what the mix might be, if it is mixed with another breed, I'd say your puppy looks like it could be a Chihuahua/Pomeranian.

My guess is your dog is purebred. It can take 6 months or more for ears to begin to stand up.

yes she looks very legit to me, not that I know very much about Chihuahuas. I do know that most pups' ears stand up after they're older, and that, honestly, some breeds they don't stand up at all - that is done with a surgical intervention (such as Pit bulls). Do we know if Chihuahua's ears stand up by themselves?

if I had to guess re mix, maybe Pomeranian? But I'm not convinced she is a mix
