Wildlife: Baby Armadillos

Here in Louisiana, armadillos are far from rare, but seeing these babies was a real treat. Pictured are three armadillos. They are always born as quadruplets, but one was a little camera shy!

Thanks for sharing the fact about them being born as quadruplets. Very interesting.

I love the way the mama leads the way, and the babies all follow her in a line just like baby ducks. We so often saw them around the creeks when we'd take my Mother fishing at her favorite "cat-fish" holes as we named them.

The girls would always want us to catch the little pink babies to bring home, and I'd have to ask them how they'd feel if someone stole them away from me. They decided to leave the babies with their mother.

My daughters and I would explore all through the surrounding woods in search of whatever we could find while Daddy and Grannie fished. Then if they'd caught anything edible, we'd cook and eat right there, and if they hadn't, we'd just eat the baloney sandwiches we'd brought along. Nice memories. I can remember how my Mother always wanted to fish with 2 cane poles at once. Just in case she'd catch a fish on one line, she didn't want to miss the chance of catching his friend while she was re-baiting her hook. LOL She'd stand there all day in her wide-brimmed sun hat fussing at snapping turtles who were "catching" and eating her fish.

Thanks for sharing you great photo.

Those are so cute! I've never seen a live armadillo here in Oklahoma, maybe some day.
