Garden: Red LilyI love this deep red lily, surrounded by butterfly weed. I had trouble getting the lily bulbs that I planted last fall, to come up. This is the only one that did. I am happy it was this one. I love it!

Garden: Mock OrangeThis Mock Orange is right outside our front door. I just love this Mock Orange when it is blooming. It has over a hundred blooms on it, and smells so good. As you can see by the picture of my car, the bush is huge.

Garden: Daffodil in Early Spring (Ohio)It has not been a very pleasant April in Northeastern Ohio, but at least the daffodils are blooming profusely and trying to brighten our days. I took this photo of one daffodil in my front bed.

Garden: Apple Blossom in SpringSpringtime in 2011, this Crab apple blossom was darn near perfect, taken on a perfect sping day in Ocean City, Maryland. The tree is located beside the "Breakfast Cafe", I work there. It was over 60 degrees and there was a nice breeze going.

Garden: Potatoes 'n BeansEvery year I have a vegetable garden with red potatoes, onions, pinto beans, straight neck squash, tomatoes, bell peppers, sweet banana peppers and okra later. When things start producing, I will have some more beautiful pictures.

Garden: Spring (Lodi, CA)Although spring has been mostly hiding in Seattle, California has had much better weather for flowers to bloom. My sister has an amazing garden at her house in Lodi, and sent me these pictures just to make me jealous.

 

Garden: Beautiful BloomEvery time I look at this photo, I remember the time I spent walking with my younger brother the day we saw this flower. The lilac petals and maroon center make a unique and beautiful contrast; I never tire of looking at this picture!

 

Garden: Early GarlicI planted my garlic late last year (or maybe winter came sooner), and it started popping up about 3 weeks ago. In that time, it's grown about 5 inches. This is in my 4x4 raised bed with tomato cages and plastic covering them.

Rhododendrons In SpringThis little rhododendron is the first to bloom in my garden every spring. I've planted about twenty rhodies in my garden, and they bloom from February though June. I selected the varieties I have, after studying two books with information on rhododendrons.

 

Garden: Bridal Wreath And Lilac (West Virginia) I just love it when this bush blooms. It gets tiny white flowers all over it. It is so pretty and it is one of the first to bloom. I just love spring and all its pretty flowers. I was told it is called Bridal Wreath.

 

Garden: Lawnmower In DitchThis was taken of lawnmower driven in the ditch by grandson (Craig). Grandpa came and looked over situation. My grandson had to remove it from the ditch. Summer brings such fun!

 

Reuse Plastic Bottles For SeedlingsI reuse plastic water bottles in Pixiepods Garden here in Tenerife as cloches for new plants. It can be windy here from time to time and it just helps them to settle in. The photo is of some herbs that I planted out in January.

 

Garden: FreesiaFeb.24 and we have our first Freesia in bloom. The Clivia is right behind and we have a few Iris blooming also. The Lady Banksia is a shower of pale yellow over the Path Garden Arch

Plant Sprouted GarlicDon't throw away garlic just because it is starting to sprout. Plant it in a pot for your kitchen window! I had a bulb that got forgotten about and several of the cloves were dried out, while some others were questionable.

 

Garden: Budding TreeI went out today in the snow to take some lovely photos!

 

Garden: Bedford (TX)This picture was taken in my yard in Bedford, Texas. The foliage is so eye capturing. Banana trees that get 12 to fifteen foot tall, cannas and so much more. It's like a island paradise.

Garden: Guarding The BirdhousesI had put some bluebird boxes my dad had built on the picnic table. It was funny to see my cat Stacey, had laid down in between both of them, as if she did not want any birds to visit.

 

Garden: Wintered Wild Rose BerryWell, winter is upon us now. I took this photo last week during the (early for the Tri-Cities Washington area) first snowfall. It's of a lone wild rose berry that remains on the snow dusted rose bush. Also, did you know these berries are edible?

 

Wildlife: Squash Bug I was getting ready to move one of our outdoor chairs and spotted this fellow. It is a Full Armored Squash Bug.

 

Cleaning The Garden ShedBoy, when my husband cleans the shed, he makes sure he doesn't miss a spot! What he is really doing is removing all the leaves because we were putting on a metal roof. He found he could get the leaves off faster with a broom than picking them up by hand.

Garden: Flower Pots My mother in law had her flower pots sitting in her arbor. So, I thought it would make a great picture.

 

Garden: Queen of the Night This flower is a strange and beautiful flower it only blooms once a year usually in August but it blooms up in the morning hours around 2 or 3 am and only stays open a short time then closes forever until another year passes.

Garden: Under the Trumpets In this picture the trumpets are up to 7 ft tall here in Port St Lucie. When I came back from Costa Rica I brought with me some stalks, and the reason I called this picture under trumpets is because of the fact that when they were in full bloom I took the picture from underneath.

 

Garden: Heritage Bean Blossom in CornThis is a bean which has been passed among generations of friends in our mountain area. It is in a "Three Sisters Garden" of beans, corn and squash, at Full Spectrum Farms, planted in the Iroquois tradition.

 

Rock GardenThis was started on a slope my husband said would never work! But I carried on and the result has been my favorite place in my yard! I am always changing and adding on as well. it is a constant canvas of art work to me.

 

Garden: Date Palms (Iraq)With great pleasure, I present these photos. They show a side in my garden. The main and loveliest trees to me are those two date palms. They are of the same kind of fruit. It is the best kind in Iraq and in Basrah, where I live. We call it berhi.

 

Garden: Purple FlowersThese flowers open up in the morning. By mid-day they are all gone, until the next day when new ones open. On it goes for a long time. They multiply fast which can be used as hedges for fencing

Unusual FlowerThis flower was so different from any other flower I've seen. It's on the small side, and I thought it was beautiful. No idea what it's called, though!

 

Garden: Eavesdropping BirdOut in the garden, there are good and bad guys constantly plotting and planning on how to rid the garden of vermin. The birds occasionally drop by to listen in and see if they can help.

 

Garden: English DaisiesThis is the first year I have discovered the English Daisies. They are so small, dainty and petite, just adorable. They did take me a while to learn how to care for them. They are so cute and also come in pinks and reds. I love these little flowers!

 

Garden: BaptisiaBaptisia, or False Indigo, contributes beautiful spring color. It is a shrubby perennial that needs to be cut back in fall or early spring. The seed pods turn solid black and rattle in the south wind. It is so very blue - I wish it could bloom all summer!

 

Garden: Perennials We have a perennial garden running the full width of our lot (a narrow city lot) from the house out to the sidewalk. It has gathered a lot of attention and some copycatting!

 

Garden: First Peas Of The SeasonThis is our first little batch of pink-eye-purple-hull (southern) peas of the season. They are supposed to be a brilliant dark purple color, but I couldn't resist picking these just a little before they changed color.

Garden: Endless Summer HydrangeaThis is the most beautiful my hydrangea has ever bloomed. Two seasons we had late frost and it didn't bloom. It makes me smile!

Garden: Spring (Bel Air, MD)Taken this spring. Everything's in full bloom, the path called out to us to follow and we did. What a thrilling experience, the scents of the flowers, the sounds of birds singing, the trees rustling. I love spring!

 

Garden: Seattle CourtyardTwo weekends ago I let Greyhound do the driving from here in Richland to spend a long weekend with my best friend, Cindy. She now lives in West Seattle and this is the beautiful courtyard view from her apartment on a typical lovely drizzly Seattle Sunday morning.

 

Garden: Blue IrisWhen I married my husband and moved here, his yard was a jungle of plants. Not being a gardener, my first inclination was to bulldoze the entire thing. Better judgment won out.

 

Garden: Bee On White FlowerI found this little fellow on a daisy in one of my daughter's many flower gardens.

 

Garden: Shade Canopy With PlantsI use an old canopy to gather my potted plants and cuttings. I decorate the shade with decorative stepping stones and assorted garden-themed hangings. It makes me feel so relaxed just by looking at them and want to add more to my collection.

 

Garden: Backyard Pinks (Dianthus)The variegated ones were given to me by a friend. The deep red ones were here when we bought the house.

 

Garden: Tropicana RoseThis vibrant rose is named "Tropicana." I love the deep orange color.

 

Garden: Hover Fly And Monk FlowerHover Fly headed to a Monk Flower. The Hover Fly looks like a bee, but is harmless.

 

Garden: Fern Leaf Grevilla (Corrigin, Western Australia)I recently was lucky to come across a fern leaf grevilla with four honey bees gathering pollen from it. I feel the red of the grevillia flower really accented the bees colours.

 

My Garden ShedMy shed is saying "Hello" to all gardeners throughout the world.

 

Garden: PrimrosesMy friend and I lived in Vancouver, Washington many years ago. We use to talk over the fence about life, kids, husbands, problems and etc. and the primroses below us heard everything.

 

Garden: Beaver BushI call this shrub my Beaver Bush and here is the reason. I had a beautiful, young maple tree in my yard. One morning when I opened the curtains to let in the sunlight, I saw the maple tree lying on the ground next to what remained of the trunk sticking up from the ground.

 

Garden: AzaleaThe sun-kissed azalea tree brings brilliance through the blossoms on the bush; it's reflection from the sun shows coloration of yellow hues that are lovely to see and enjoy the beauty of nature.

 

Garden: CarrotsHere is what I pulled up from my carrot patch one summer.

 

Garden: YuccaThis Yucca plant was bursting with color on the golf course in Texas. It should have a sweet aroma as pretty as it is.

 

Garden: Bug CarThis is one of my favorite gardens from the 70s. It got confiscated in Woodstock by Willie Nelson!

 

Garden: Red, White And Blue FlowersThis flower arrangement was put together by accident but really seemed to bring the outdoors inside. It was the prettiest arrangement I ever put together. Go Red, White and Blue!

Garden: Tea Pot PlanterThis is a tea pot I bought at a thrift store. I planted some grass seed in it and during a summer tea party my 3 year old granddaughter painted some rocks for me. In the background is a lattice I built from sticks to grow my snow peas, and some wild flowers to add colour.

Homemade Garden Hose HolderAn easy, thrifty way to wind a garden hose: I had bought many different hose reels over the years, at considerable expense, but recently came up with this idea: fill a bucket with water (in this case, it's rain water), and wrap the hose around it. That's it!

 

Garden: Pineapple SageThis is the second year I started these Pineapple sage from cuttings. Started in water until roots came, transplanted into yard and kept doing it through the summer. They turned out beautiful, running across the entire yard in front of house.

 

Garden: Volunteer GourdThe seed that started this plant was dropped in front of our hay rake and started growing. It climbed up our rose and grew quite large! You can see a small gourd growing if you look closely!

 

Garden: ApplesHere is a picture of my apple tree this year. It was pretty loaded with apples but we should have thinned them at some point and probably need to do more research on getting rid of the pests.

 

Garden: Pot of FlowersMy favorite flower pot in our yard, which sits at the corner of our walkway along the house. So pretty and full of bloom!

 

Garden: Shepherds Hooks With LanternsAll the garden experts recommend adding height to the garden, and to that end I have almost 20 shepherds hooks collected through the years tucked in various gardens to draw the eye up.

 

Wildlife: Painted BuntingThis beautiful Painted Bunting has been frequenting our bird feeder all summer.

Garden: Naked Lady LiliesThis is picture of my naked lady lily I have 2 plants and they have over 20 stems of flowers each and a blackeyed Susan vine. Also my petunias. They look much better since we had some rain.

 

Garden: Head PlanterOur daughter made this "head" in pottery class. Our garden needed a little whimsey and he made the perfect addition. He is the "Head" gardener. We call him Big Al after my dad who was the real head gardener in our family.

 

Overwintering PentasDo you have a plant in the yard that is just beautiful but will die when the frost and snow come? I have 2 Pentas plant, Google it, they are pretty! Hummingbirds love them.

 

Garden: ScarecrowWe need to keep birds away from crops on our allotment, so I created Carolina (as she leans a bit!) and she is doing the job well. In her sleeves I've put empty plastic bottles so that the wind moves them easily. Her upright support is an old rotary washing pole.

 

Garden: Place Fencing Between TomatoesThis year we put a hog panel vertically down the center of our garden and planted tomatoes along each side. As the plants grew we stretched out coat hangers and slipped them over and attached them to the fence.

 

Backyard Vegetable GardenWe have a small 25x25 foot garden space that is very productive. What we freeze or can keeps us in fresh, healthy meals for a year. We grow carrots, beets, radishes and mixed lettuce, green and yellow beans, green pepper, over 60 broccoli plants, and some assorted herbs.

Garden: Tiger LiliesThis photo was taken last summer in Canada. It is a closeup of a beautiful flower in one of the gardens of an old-fashioned resort called the Opinicon Hotel.

 

Garden: Stroller As Decorative PlanterLast year I found this old stroller out by the road for the trash It reminded me of one that I rode in as a child. I wasn't sure what I would do with it, but I pushed it home to think about it.

 

Garden: Washington RosesThis is not only a beautiful rose, but caught in a moment of dew-misted elegance. It is so very fresh and eye catching.

 

Garden: Produce Year RoundWe grow a huge garden each year. We end up having enough to eat through the summer, with plenty left over to can or freeze.

 

Garden: Strawberry PlantsHaving grown up in Western WA state, I picked many strawberries to earn money for school clothes for the next year. I now enjoy the more beautiful aspect of the plant that provides such delightful fruits.

Patriotic Robin's NestAs we are getting ready for a party, we were trimming our Rose of Sharon plant and look at what we discovered. Little did Mrs. Robin know that our theme is red, white and blue!

 

Garden: Decorative Wooden FenceTo give our goldfish pond a little color and country style, my husband added this little fence and a cheap bird bath. Our little paradise in our backyard.

 

Garden: LadyslippersOn my way home from visiting my son in Lake City, Michigan, we came across these ladyslippers along the road. They were all along it for about 2 blocks. I haven't seen ladyslippers since I was a child and I'm 60 now.
