My walls are cream, curtains beige, and the lounge suite is chocolate brown. I feel I need to brighten the room up a bit, but have no idea what to do.
Any ideas for me please?
Add pillows on sofa and/or chairs, a throw spread over the back of the couch, an area rug in front of the couch, an ottoman. Get them in a print or solid that you like. As far as colors, blue, green, orange, yellow all go well with cream, beige and brown. I'd try a couple of pillows in a solid and a print first, and then depending on what I liked, I'd add a throw or a rug. I have a brown sofa and chairs in my living room, with white walls and brown/gold striped pillows. I have medium green wall to wall carpet, with a brown/beige/green pattern area rug over it. Since you have all solid colors, I would bring in a patterned piece or two to make the rom more visually interesting. Hope these suggestions are helpful.
You can change the look of the room by adding pillows, a throw on the back of the couch, new lamp shades/bases, an area rug, or an ottoman. Since you have solid colors, a print would make things more visually interesting. I would try a printed and a solid color pillow to see what I liked. You could then add a rug or an ottoman or new lamps/shades or a throw. I would add 2/3 new accessories as you don't want it to look too busy.
I'm not very good at big decisions so I hope someone can help. We have just ordered a black corner sofa. I'm thinking of a mid brown two tone carpet, as I want to take it through the hall stairs and landing too. After looking at many samples I found the red floral wallpaper to go on the fireplace wall, rest of the walls will be painted.
What do you think, will the paper be overpowering? Also what colour curtains? Any advice will be welcome, thank you in advance. Can you get a larger piece of that wallpaper to put it up on the wall and see how it interacts with the light in that room?
It IS a statement...and reds tend to be vibrant and not a calming color..just realize that for the living room. Also, a little goes a long way so it's great that you are highlighting only one wall.
I would try to use the light color in the flowers petals for carpet and window treatment.
My window treatment of choice would be structured larger blinds with that particular wallpaper and a black couch. Not flowing loose curtains.
I would recommend at least one pillow or accent piece with a SMALL portion of that vibrant red but in another pattern. I feel an Asian vibe with your color and pattern choices...love that look!
I was unsure of your question. If you are showing two different wallpapers in your photo, I prefer the red one, but I think you should choose the one with the white background because I worry about your room being too dark. You'll have a very dark piece of furniture and its going to overpower the room unless you can find a way to blend it in. Don't get carpeting that is very dark as well.
I understand that you may have children or pets. I've been there, done that, too. I recently read to use all neutrals in a room of any color... I would use your red as your accent color. So you don't want more than 20% of your room to be in the red... Look at photos on pinterest.com and see what you like. You can search under "red accents" etc. Are you sure you don't want to do your carpeting in shades of grey? That would help tie in the black sofa. I like the other person's suggestion to use a shade from your wallpaper to paint the other walls of the room. don't feel you need to be too matchy matchy... use any "value" of your color.... value is strength or depth of the color. Spread a little of your red in at least 3 places in your room.
Maybe you want a red chair! Or a chair with a red seat cushion? But for sure you will want red and white sofa pillows... they will help cover up all the blackness so its not a big black hole in the room. Do you think it would help you decide if you took a photo of your room with the new sofa in it? Best of luck!
I have dark brown carpet in my lounge room. I am am purchasing a new lounge suite, what colours would look the best?
By Michael
I would go with a lighter color and maybe some bright colored pillows. Or if the brown rug is flat enough you could add an addittional area rug on top to brighten things up.
Shades of aqua are attractive with dark brown; also certain bright reds will work, but the red should not have any brown cast to it. It would be a tricky combination to make work.
What color scheme can I use for my living room? I am stuck. I have a mocha chesterfield/love seat and have a choice between an olive green chair, plum chair, or navy chair.
I also need to know what color to paint the walls and a color for the curtains.i have a mocha chesterfield and mocha curtians laminite flooring medium in color and my dining room and hallway and living room is all in one and i am looking for a color to match the funiture
What colour lounge suite would go with the attached curtains?
Thanks
Any of the warm colors in the curtain set would go well. You could choose a cold color like turquoise blue, mint green, for added interest or a warm orange. If you choose a dark brown suite, then you could use the other suggested colors for pillows or afghan throws.
I painted my living room brown. It looks weird, but beautiful, I must say. What accessories can I use to make it beautiful and what colour can I combine on the wall with the brown.
So many colour options! Tans and shades of beige, yellows, oranges. White might be too stark and red perhaps too harsh. Brass and / or copper accessories would look well too, I think. Be sure to post photos when you're done?
We just recently purchase a new living room set which looked beige/taupe in the showroom and once it arrived at the house it looks very gray :( All the tones in my house are very warm and the coolness of the couch looks odd. Hubby won't let me paint the current light beige walls with yellow undertones, are there ways to accent to tone down the coolness of the gray? Thanks!
How about some red pillows?
I just bought a 1980s small cabin and could use some advice on the living room color scheme. There is faux wood paneling on the walls that I am contemplating painting sage green. The sofa is hopefully soon going to be in a shade of brown. There is carpeting that is a mixture of brown and cream. The dilemma is the corner fireplace that is covered in white with some grey faux brick called Zbrick.
Right now it clashes with the paneling and I would like to paint the Zbrick. Any ideas on color for fireplace would be appreciated. And if anyone has other ideas for paint color on paneling other than sage green I am open to suggestions. Thank you!Google "how to paint zbrick" and you'll find very clear instructions. As for color, you have to decide if you want the fireplace to be the focal point or not. How much strong artwork, doorways and Windows it would compete with. The "how to" site gives you tips on making it look like tile. I love artwork and strong western patterns, so I'd probably paint it the same color as my walls, but paint or finish the mantle in a wood-type look. Or a fun color. One strong horizontal line can give the impression of width and not distract from whatever patterns or art you choose to use.
We are decorating our living room next year. I have seen a lovely tan leather settee and a creamy beige carpet. Can you suggest a colour to paint my feature wall and also colour for curtains.
The colors you're talking about are pretty neutral. Almost any color could be a feature wall. I favor red, green, blue or even yellow depending on what you like. As for the curtains, if they are not part of the feature wall, do them in the color of the feature wall
I have beige curtains, what colour would match for the walls and sofa?
Beige is pretty basic and is a neutral. You can pretty much choose whatever colour you like. Choose the sofa first, and then pick the paint colour to match the sofa. If you are unsure about colours, take a swatch (or one curtain) with you to the store, and hold it against the sofa to see if it goes. For example, if you picked a moss green sofa, you could go with beige slightly lighter for the main walls, maybe a moss green similar to the sofa for a wall opposite the sofa as a feature, and a darker moss green or a darker tan similar in tone to the beige for a second feature, or an adjacent hallway or what have you.
The other consideration is your flooring. If you have hardwood, you also have a fairly easy colour match. If you have carpet, get the sofa to match the carpet. You wouldn't go for a sage green sofa if you had a blue carpet.
I have a living room painted pinkish red, with curtains in a combination of red and brown, my sofa is basically brown adding few cushions in red, and a red rug. I ordered a grass green center table and now am confused. I don't know whether it would look nice or something uneven. What else should I add so the living room gives a different look?

Personally, I think you got too many colors going in the same color wheel. An almost the same is harsh on the eyes, leaving others to think you may be color blind. My husband is and he would have the same thing going as you do.
I pick the colors of my house to bring me to a happy place. So that (affordable) items will set my tone, no matter what kind of day I am having. Meaning, I have basic colors....earthtones, and add to that. Accent with the bolder color of the week if you want. I decorate so it is a 30 year thing in color change and I love it.
I have a dark brown recliner and a granite (gray) loveseat. Thought a multi colored browns and gray throw would tie them togather. What would do you think and any suggestion on where to find a inexpensive throw?

I need some ideas for colours for wallpaper and carpet for my living room. The room is 4m x 2m, with a bay window that is north facing. The ceiling, which is low, is painted white. The items of furniture I have are a black leather sofa and some beech coloured hi fi units.
