My John Deere D105 turns over, but won't crank. It's got plenty of power so it's not the battery.
There is a safety switch under the seat that stops the machine from being started unless someone is sitting on it. It may be disabled. Check that first.
My John Deere D130 has no power. The hour meter works, but the lights do not. Nothing happens when the key is turned. I checked PTO, brake pedal, seat switch, and starter connections and all appear fine.
It is a 2012 model and the battery is new. Any other suggestions? This sounds like a contact problem with your key. You could have a bad starter on the mower.
I have a John Deere 135 automatic. The solenoid clicks, but it won't start. The battery is good.

It sounds like you need to replace the solenoid. Jump the terminals, I'd it starts the starter solenoid is bad and needs to be replaced.
I can't get my 125 John Deere riding lawn mower to fire up. It has plenty of gas and the battery is fully charged.

Take a look at the ground wire - the same thing happened to my Sears Craftsman mower - somehow, the ground wire broke and the mower wouldn't start or even turn over. My son reconnected the ground wire and it's been running OK since then.
My L110 John Deere mower has no spark at the plug wire. What could be the problem?

Ive been a small engine tech for about 20 years.
It sounds like you have a bad coil.
I have a John Deere LA145, I've owned it since 2009. It used to work just fine, that is until I parked it a few years ago. I took it out last year and worked on it a little. My grandmother and I completely took apart the carburetor, cleaned it, and cleaned the air filter and still nothing.
At this point I'm about ready to just buy a new riding mower. But I have tried everything and it feels like and I have put too much money into it to just give up on it. If someone could please just help me, I would very much appreciate it. P.S. I have changed the battery, spark plugs, gas pump and filter, oil filter, and all of the belts.
It seems like you have done everything so far. There are two things that you need to check. Under the seat is a switch, try to reset this one and also check your starter switch to make sure you are getting contact.
I have a John Deere ride on mower. The other day I got off the seat without putting it on park and it shut off and won't start. It turns over and has battery power, but won't run. It did that before and it started after a few days. What can I do?
Not positive(no pun intended) about tractors but ignition and computer problems where nothing is broken can many times be solved by resetting the computer system(even a rudimentary one such as the ignition chip). Most cars you can do this by crossing the battery wires. I would have said check fuses until you said it happened before and self corrected.
The flywheel turns freely when the spark plug is removed. With the plug installed, the starter cannot turn flywheel.
I have a John Deere zero turn mower that will not turn over. I replaced the battery and all I get is a small clicking noise or nothing. I tried jumping terminals on the solenoid and I get a spark, but it does not turn over then either. All the fuses I can find seem to be okay.
Any suggestions?
Check the fuel line to make sure it is not clogged.
Check the entire under carriage for a nest or remnants of one. That could be gumming up the works. My friend has now had two experiences with this...one mouse, one wasp. Once she cleaned the nest out, the mower worked fine.

New basic stuff. It mowed great. All of a sudden it shut off and won't start. I noticed on the left side near the engine a slim silver cable with a bend in it is poking out. When I move the throttle it moves.
It looks as if it was once attached to something (perhaps curled around and/or wrapped on the end). The throttle cable appears to be fine. This is the only abnormality I can see.It sounds like you have a bend in your connection/disconnecting to power.Contact the company that makes your mower for answers!
You have to fix it. The part is called the rod.
Is this a brand new mower? If so, I would call where you got it and have them give it a look see.
If this is just a new problem, you don't mention the brand. My go to these days is YouTube. Put the brand in the search engine and the word troubleshooting or the phrase fix starter and see if one of them shows you exactly what you are seeing and how to fix it.
I have fixed my vacuum several times this way and just recently, a weed wacker. I am very visual and that these videos now exist have been the best thing that ever happened to things we break!

My mower has no spark. I changed the plug and there is still no spark. I checked the coil 10000 ohms resistance, checked the coil gap, and I also changed the igniter on the side.
I'm out of ideas.Check to make sure the fuel line is clear.
Others have had this problem too:
Unplug engine harness and check for spark - if you have spark its a bad safety switch

My John Deere 17.5 riding mower does not turn starter when under compression. It turns over fast when spark plug is out. Could this be faulty starter?
Swap out the starter and see if that solves your problem.
I'm new to mowing lawns. My John Deere started up fine this morning, but after engaging the blades it shut off. The mower deck is lowered, but the blades are off. Now it won't turn over to start up again.
I have a L130 John Deere that will turn over, but not start. I've tested the fuel pump and it is working, fuel filter was replaced last year, it has a brand new battery, and I have spark.
The air filter is also clean. Any suggestions?I was mowing with my D110 when it just shut off. I can't restart it. The engine will crank, but will not fire up; spark at plug is good. Fuel is flowing from fuel pump fine as well as through line to the carburetor.
I tried unplugging and plugging in the seat safety cutout. Also I tried bypassing the seat switch via a few videos. It still would not start. What else to is there to check? The engine will start if jumped, but it runs for 3-4 minutes, shuts off, and won't turn starter over. The lights don't come on. The battery is one month old.
I just bought 1972 John Deere 110 garden tractor from a guy. He said he didn't know what was wrong with it and didn't want to fool with it. I am new to these older mowers, but when turning the ignition the mower will turn over no problem, but won't fire.
Any ideas on where to start?I have a John Deere 135 riding mower that won't start. The lights work and the hour meter works, but there is no sound at all.
I checked the battery, changed the fuse, and filled with gas. It leads me to believe PTO cable or safety switch? Any other ideas? My daughter borrowed my riding mower yesterday. New to riding mowers, she was mowing with the throttle at a low speed and of course, the lack of lift resulted in the bag chute filling up. She stopped the mower and Dad to the rescue. After explaining the need for a full throttle while mowing, I went to start the mower up and nothing. I checked the regular culprits (brake lock, mower engage lever, seat sensor). All were good.
I checked the battery, cleaned the ignition harness and wires, cleaned the brake override harness, and still nothing. The hour meter works, lights work, and if I engage the mower lever while turning the ignition, it clicks. I did notice when I was brushing the ignition wire harness, the wire bristles created a quick "short" and the flywheel engaged for a split second. Not sure where to go from here?I just cut 2 acres with my JD D150 and the mower ran great. I decided to cut a patch through the waist high grass and the mower just stopped. It will not start? The headlights work, but it will not turn over.
You might have overheated the mower. Wait until it cools down and try again
Thank you. However its been 4 days and still nothing.
I am 99% sure the cause is old gas due to my mother never servicing it. The LA115 is currently at 299 hours. It started and ran prior to the old gas running out. After refueling with new clean fuel it still would not start. I tried starter fluid in the tube next to air filter (which was surprisingly clean) and still no start.
Next I changed the plug which was seriously rusted and obviously old, still only cranks, but does not catch. What should be the next logical step - clean/replace carb? Or how do I clean any residual bad gunk out of the engine? The carburetor could get gummed up. This is the next step.
Sometimes I have to leave the key for about ten minutes before the tractor will start. Has anyone else come across this problem? What is the solution?
I have a John Deere gt262 it has 17 horsepower motor. I was mowing one day and it just shut off like it ran out of gas.
I checked and it had gas. I put a new fuel filter on it and it will only run when I have the choke fully on.There are many reasons. You could have a bad spark plug or an electrical problem. Here is a great website from John Deere to help you: manuals.deere.com/
I read this advice online that might help you:
"In most cases a tractor only running with the choke pulled out indicates trash and/or contamination being present in the carburetor. If the fuel pump is failing it might would still run but only with the choke out. Normally it wouldn't run for very long like that though. With the tank being in the rear of the machine it is also possible that something has happened to the fuel hose.
