My mower has no spark. I changed the plug and there is still no spark. I checked the coil 10000 ohms resistance, checked the coil gap, and I also changed the igniter on the side.
Check to make sure the fuel line is clear.
Others have had this problem too:
Unplug engine harness and check for spark - if you have spark its a bad safety switch

My John Deere 17.5 riding mower does not turn starter when under compression. It turns over fast when spark plug is out. Could this be faulty starter?
Swap out the starter and see if that solves your problem.
I'm new to mowing lawns. My John Deere started up fine this morning, but after engaging the blades it shut off. The mower deck is lowered, but the blades are off. Now it won't turn over to start up again.
I have a L130 John Deere that will turn over, but not start. I've tested the fuel pump and it is working, fuel filter was replaced last year, it has a brand new battery, and I have spark.
The air filter is also clean. Any suggestions?I was mowing with my D110 when it just shut off. I can't restart it. The engine will crank, but will not fire up; spark at plug is good. Fuel is flowing from fuel pump fine as well as through line to the carburetor.
I tried unplugging and plugging in the seat safety cutout. Also I tried bypassing the seat switch via a few videos. It still would not start. What else to is there to check? You may need to check the carburetor, starter switch or even the battery to see if there is an issue there. This could also be an issue with the alternator and it has drained the battery.
You can also check the solenoid.
The engine will start if jumped, but it runs for 3-4 minutes, shuts off, and won't turn starter over. The lights don't come on. The battery is one month old.
You sound like you have an issue with the tractor draining the life of the battery. This normally is because of an alternator and it is not charging your battery.
I think it is the alternator. I had a similar issue with a car once.
The alternator is bad and draining the battery. Jumping it will get it started but eventually kill whats left in the battery and it will not turn over when it is fully drained!
I just bought 1972 John Deere 110 garden tractor from a guy. He said he didn't know what was wrong with it and didn't want to fool with it. I am new to these older mowers, but when turning the ignition the mower will turn over no problem, but won't fire.
Any ideas on where to start?Spark plugs, carburetor, filter!
Check the solenoid.
I have a John Deere 135 riding mower that won't start. The lights work and the hour meter works, but there is no sound at all.
I checked the battery, changed the fuse, and filled with gas. It leads me to believe PTO cable or safety switch? Any other ideas?Make sure the filter not clogged, check Carburetor!
Did you check to make sure you have no nests in the under carriage or that no little critters nibbled on any of the wires and you have shorts so good connections aren't being made?
This is the most common issue where we are. Mice can do such damage!! Well, mice most of the time, wasps nests in the spring. YUCK! At least they don't eat the wires, just gum up the motor.
I would check the solenoid and the carburetor.
My daughter borrowed my riding mower yesterday. New to riding mowers, she was mowing with the throttle at a low speed and of course, the lack of lift resulted in the bag chute filling up. She stopped the mower and Dad to the rescue. After explaining the need for a full throttle while mowing, I went to start the mower up and nothing. I checked the regular culprits (brake lock, mower engage lever, seat sensor). All were good.
I checked the battery, cleaned the ignition harness and wires, cleaned the brake override harness, and still nothing. The hour meter works, lights work, and if I engage the mower lever while turning the ignition, it clicks. I did notice when I was brushing the ignition wire harness, the wire bristles created a quick "short" and the flywheel engaged for a split second. Not sure where to go from here?I just cut 2 acres with my JD D150 and the mower ran great. I decided to cut a patch through the waist high grass and the mower just stopped. It will not start? The headlights work, but it will not turn over.
You might have overheated the mower. Wait until it cools down and try again
Thank you. However its been 4 days and still nothing.
It's probably the seat safety thing , if you get up off the seat it cuts off
I am 99% sure the cause is old gas due to my mother never servicing it. The LA115 is currently at 299 hours. It started and ran prior to the old gas running out. After refueling with new clean fuel it still would not start. I tried starter fluid in the tube next to air filter (which was surprisingly clean) and still no start.
Next I changed the plug which was seriously rusted and obviously old, still only cranks, but does not catch. What should be the next logical step - clean/replace carb? Or how do I clean any residual bad gunk out of the engine? The carburetor could get gummed up. This is the next step.
Sometimes I have to leave the key for about ten minutes before the tractor will start. Has anyone else come across this problem? What is the solution?
I have a John Deere gt262 it has 17 horsepower motor. I was mowing one day and it just shut off like it ran out of gas.
I checked and it had gas. I put a new fuel filter on it and it will only run when I have the choke fully on.There are many reasons. You could have a bad spark plug or an electrical problem. Here is a great website from John Deere to help you: manuals.deere.com/
I read this advice online that might help you:
"In most cases a tractor only running with the choke pulled out indicates trash and/or contamination being present in the carburetor. If the fuel pump is failing it might would still run but only with the choke out. Normally it wouldn't run for very long like that though. With the tank being in the rear of the machine it is also possible that something has happened to the fuel hose.

My JD LA100 was running fine. The blade engagement lever broke and it kept running until I drove it around to the garage and shut it off. I replaced the lever and now it won't even click to turn over.
Battery is good, I bypassed all the safety switches to maybe isolate one as bad, no luck. Any ideas? After sitting for the winter, my mower will do nothing! It was stored in the garage. It makes a clicking noise like it wants to start, but nothing. I've charged and jumped it off or tried to, I changed the spark plugs, checked fuses, and some switch I want to say, but am not sure.
I'm at a loss!! It's still a really good mower at only going on 3 summers. Any suggestions? If I can't jump out the solenoid on my John Deere riding mower, does that mean the solenoid is shot and needs replaced?
John deer series 100 does not have enough power to start unless you jump start or disconnect the deck belt. It also has a brand new battery and I just put a brand new deck belt on.
My 2 year old E130 John Deere won't start. My wife shut the motor down while the blades were engaged and then it wouldn't restart. It has fresh plugs and oil. The battery reads 12 volts on a meter.
I checked the electrical connections. The battery cable is clean and tight. I turned the blades manually and moved the engine shaft. Nothing works. Any ideas?I have a 2017 John Deere D105 that I've recently bought 2nd hand. I was using it a few days ago when I thought I had run it out of gas. I pushed it back to our building and went to get fresh gas the following morning. After filling the tank I tried to start the mower and it would spin, but not start. I checked and I'm not getting spark.
I've changed the ignition coil and the spark plug and it still won't start. I checked with a local parts house and they believe it's the starter. I'm trying to make absolutely sure before I start removing the flywheel to get to it that there's nothing else it could be. Thank you in advance!I have a John Deere L130 tractor. I just replaced the starter because the old one wasn't working. I have the starter in and the battery is charged. When I start the engine I hear the starter turning, but the engine will not crank. The starter is making a whirling noise, but like I said the engine will not crank. Any ideas?
My John Deere won't even turn. I've replaced the battery, starter, and solenoid, but am still not getting back the power through the solenoid when I turn the key. What could be going on here?
Check the carburetor and the fuel line.
My John Deere tipped over the other day. I set it back up, and continued to mow. It worked fine, outside of a little oil that leaked out.
But, when I was done I turned it off and now it won't start at all. In fact, the headlights don't even come on.If it tipped over, something might have been loose and then got disconnected or broke. I would take it in for servicing.
Be sure to check battery, make sure something didn't come loose!
