I have a Maytag Performance 9000 series washer, MHWE950W. It is flashing error code F21. I know that means I need to clean out the drain which is located behind the front panel, I watched a YouTube video, and requires that I remove the 3 T20 screws. OK that should be fine, but I could only get one screw out! The other two appear to be stripped, no tool I own will turn those screws. I don't know if they were over-torqued when installed or what, but I've never removed the panel so I know it wasn't me.

The door is locked, I can't get my laundry out and I can't get the panel off! Can someone tell me how to get the door unlocked so I can get my laundry out before it gets moldy and give me some advice as to how to deal with those stubborn screws? Thank you.

  1. To open the washing machine you'll need to unplug the machine.
  2. Remove the lower front panel from the machine.
  3. Now reach you hand up inside the machine and feel around for the manual release level on the door panel.
  4. As for the screws I would suggest trying some WD40 on them to see if it will losen up the screws and maybe the rust.
  5. If the screws aren't stripped I think they are hex screws.
  6. Do you have a set of hex screw drivers?
  7. A lot of time people have these in a knife like kit.
  8. Check to see if these will work.

The code means drain times are longer than expected

Step 1
Are your drain hoses kinked?

Step 2
Make sure you are using HE detergent

My 1998 Kenmore toploader keeps turning on and off in the cycle, every minute or so. It eventually finishes the cycle. I can also smell an odor that I might describe as electronic burnt part? Not sure how to describe it. Could it be a timer issue, because I don't hear the timer clicking when it is in its off cycle? Thanks.

You old washer may be trying to tell you that it is tired and ready to retire. Especially if you smell a possible electrical issue. You can request an appliance repair service check the washer and recommend a repair.

Most probably, the repair will be almost as expensive as buying a new washer.

I agree with the previous poster. This is a fairly old washer, and I think you should try to find a repair person. If it is going to be terribly costly, you might be better off getting a new machine. However, talk to someone who repairs these machines for a living, as sometimes it is a very simple repair job.

The clothes washer is acting up. It may not want to change cycles any more. DON'T CALL A REPAIRMAN YET. A GIRL CAN FIX THIS ONE, EASY.

Take off the screws on the panel where the knobs are. There is a timer in there that just unscrews. Go to the Sears store and ask if they have one in stock, THEY DO. Now take the new one home and put it in where the old one was. It shouldn't cost more than about $10 dollars. I did it 15 years ago, and they were only $5.00 then. It's really that easy. MOMS RULE!

I have another hint about this: Make sure what you think is a water leak from under the washer really is a water leak. Last week while I was putting clothes in my washer while it was filling, some water splashed back into the area above the tub where the water fills. If I hadn't realized this had happened I would have been worried about the water I saw coming from under my washer.

My machine does the same thing - bit of extra work, really, but to keep mould from growing I mop it up with a clean tea towel. So far doing this seems to have prevented those infamous front load washing machine bad odours, too.

When my washer is filling on the "hot" cycle only, the water clicks on and off very loudly. This does not occur on other cycles.

It would help if we knew what the make and model is of the washing machine.

Step 1
Check your hot water hoses that go to your washing machine. Make sure they aren't clogged.

Step 2
Take off the hot water hose and clean the screen.

Step 3
Make sure you have both the hot and cold water open when filling your machine.

These are some simple steps and things you can check now. If you can give us the make and model of the machine it would be easier to suggest some other thngs to try.

My new washing machine is not allowing me to change the amount of minutes I want to run a cycle. I put it on quick cycle and I want to decrease the minutes and instead it was changing the delay start from 8 hours to 7 hours.

How can I fix that? I tried to unplug it and it still does the same thing.

You can contact the store where your purchased your washer or the manufacturer's website for help. A very easy online search for Whirpool produced many replies. You can try a search yourself or this site to start:

Many times this is very simple to fix. In the back of your machine are the two hoses for hot and cold water. Remove the hoses and clean the screen on them. It appears that the hoses are dirty and the water is not flowing into the machine correctly.

I have a top loading older Maytag washing machine. When I pull out the timer button to start the washer, it will fill up and will then sometimes stop running. I have to manually pull out on the button a little bit and hold it to keep the machine running.

The timer button isn't staying out like it should. Any ideas? If I replace the timer button, do you think that would solve the problem?

You will have to look in your manual. If its an older model, there may be a timer belt.

It doesn't much matter what we think is the problem, as we can't fix it for you. If I were you, I would call a repair person.

Unless your machine is over 30 years old, it is likely cost effective to have it repaired.

My LG front load washer will only fill correctly on certain rinse and spin settings. It doesn't fill correctly as it used to. I changed the water inlet valves and it only drops water a very little in the beginning and a little later on. It will work with different settings. The hoses are new also. Thanks.

Tom, do you know if the water pressure is still the same because that can also affect the way your water fills up. If you're in an apartment building, you can ask the superintendent and if you own your own house, check the water meter or your water bills. You may even want to check with the water company. May not necessarily be the problem, but still worth checking.^IV

Well, you can either bail it out, soak it out with towels or use a shop vac. When its empty, see if you can remove the agitator. If something got under the agitator, it could cause this problem.

I've got a Kenmore that was built in 1994, so it may or may not be the same as yours. I have a cap that pries off the agitator. You can just barely see a line, but it's there. When the cap is off, then looking down in, there is a nut/washer combination that unscrews.

With the nut off, I can just pull up on the agitator and it will come right out. I think the first time it stuck a bit, but not too badly. You may need to call the place that repairs or sells them. Ask them for help. They can tell you how to remove the agitator. Good luck.

You will undoubtedly get your part from a parts store. Ask them for a print out of the page from the repair book which tells you how to do it. They might charge you a few cents, but I doubt it.

I have a Whirlpool Duet Steam washer, the clean washer cycle has stopped working. When I try to use it, it goes through the cycle, but does not send any water into the machine and when it gets down to 1 minute it will not cut off. I tried to use this cycle yesterday and it stayed on the 1 minute left for over 30 minutes before I noticed it and manually cut it off.

Please help!

I have a GE Top load washing machine. The wash, rinse, spin, and 2nd rinse worked fine, but the final spin did not work. When I tried to run the spin by itself, the tub moved a little. I removed the front panel to check things out. The clutch pulley starts to move slowly, then stops.

The axle for the motor is still spinning, but the pulley is not moving. I pulled the pulley thinking it is worn, but after looking around the internet I am wondering if the motor is starting to wear out. Any ideas? I don't want to drop $100 on a new clutch pulley and replace the wrong part.
