I am so sorry to tell you that these books are almost worthless. They are not 100 years old and people won't buy them. Nobody will take them as a donation because they receive way too many of them all the time. Unless a set of books is over 100 years old, nobody will even buy them. You could try to list them on Craig'a list in your area. You might get $15 to $20 for the set.

1957 is not considered antique, so these books have no value. Donate and take the tax deduction.

Seems almost everyone has old books they think are important and want to sell. Most old dictionaries, encyclopedias, etc., have very little value-a few dollars at most. You can check online for old book collectors, on Craigslist and other retail sites for possibilities.

Everything is now online and updated constantly so old books are just that-old.

Hi Marianne,

I was wondering if this is the brown set and if so would you consider selling me one of the volumes?

Thank you,

Michelle

Probably not. No one wants them. You can't give them to charities. You may find someone who wants them for some sort of craft project, that you can give them to.

They are not worth anything.

Encyclopedias have value if they are complete and are 100 years old. Financially, you would be better off donating them and taking a tax deduction.

Many people have old books they think are valuable and would like to sell. Most old dictionaries, references etc., have very little value-a few dollars at most. Encyclopedias dated after 1923 are essentially worthless but crafters may be interested for the old pictures. Goodwill, Salvation Army, etc., receive donations of tons of old encyclopedias but send them to recycling centers or dumps as they cannot use or sell them.

My husband is an auctioneer, and sadly, these books usually bring only a couple dollars. You can access many encyclopedias online, that are updated daily, so the older ones don't carry much value.

Perhaps in another 100 years they may.
