I was trying to get some kind of idea on the value of my Caldwell Cub. What I have found out is that it is a not too common; it is a very early Coldwell Cub.Value of Caldwell Cub Mower

The earliest models did not have a throttle lever. The other obvious early feature is the side plate of the cutting unit and how it attaches to the chassis. The engine was made by Coldwell. The unit has compression and everything moves freely. It still has the Brass Bear Cub and original cork stopper for the radiator.

The only things missing are the fan belt and it needs a new muffler. It has been in the family forever, but I have not had it running for many years. Any info or value on it would be deeply appreciated.

It appears that your mower is a Coldwell Cub made by Caldwell. It is a late 1920's to early 1930's vintage. Here is a link I found showing the mower running.

It doesn't appear that anyone is selling such a unit. So unfortunately, I can't find a price. There isn't much information about this mower. I would suggest that you contact an antique mower dealer in your area. I am sure they have more information on this mower for you.

$200 or so. The one in the video in the previous reply is mine. I paid $250 for it and another mower, but it doesn't have the bear filler plug.

I was wondering how much this is worth. It's a vintage Jacobson Manor 30 with a Wisconsin motor. It has been stored indoors and all has and oil drained before storing. Great shape?

Many people ask the value of an antique reel mower. The true value is when you restore the mower and get it in good working condition. These types of mowers sell for around $69.

However, there are some mower forums that people look for certain types of antique mowers. You could try a few of them to see if anyone is interested in this mower.

I see them from $40 to $90. Are you interested in selling it? I love those things

There are very few places left that will even discuss vintage mowers as it appears these places were being bombarded with questions (mostly about value) that the members just said - no more - and so most will not even answer a simple question.

There may still be some appraisers left that will give some answers (for a price) but I have not seen any links.

Your best bet is to keep searching eBay in their vintage mowers and their sold listings as many people do use the eBay site. Many sellers will list their heavy items with "pick up only" as the shipping is expensive and difficult to even pack.

Here is what is presently listed on eBay (you will have to sort through to find a mower) so you can see that mowers are being listed and occasionally one will sell. You may never see a Falls Roto Clipper listed. You can place a watch on anyone of the listings if you wish to see if it sells.

Here is a link to the sold site on eBay (sold prices in green).

www.ebay.com/.../i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=m570.l1313...

You might want to check listings in your local area such as Craigslist, USA4Sale, IOffer, and any other sites that are in your area as many times these are the best place to list things like this.

You can always start your price high and lower it if no one shows an interest.

To learn more about it, there are some old ads online--you can see if you can learn the year from matching yours to one of the ads (this is just a sample of what is out there):

www.ebay.com/.../401430427607

If you put a search into Google and click images -- meaning the mower name + print advertisements you can find many more. There are Pinterest pages devoted to this line of mowers.

Perhaps for value, you could find a fellow Pinterest person who may share his/her expertise.

Keep checking back to eBay to find a sold version of yours that is an exact match.

You will need to try a variety of searching methods like...just use the brand name, just use the numbers, if you can confirm the year just use the year and the word mower.... everyone lists their mowers differently...and it is amazing how I can find things just by changing up my wording.

The only way to find a true market value is to learn what someone else paid for the item.

Let us know what you find!! There are some of us on this site who are hungry to learn as much as we can about all things vintage...especially the cool old mowers!

Thanks!

I have the same power unit with a sickle bar mower. I have one complete and enough parts to build a couple more. I wonder what they are worth.

It looks like the name "Ford" is on your tank so it's possible this is the brand kick start that you have.

You can ask about your mower on this site but bear in mind they will not offer a value as they only deal in information but they do have a 'classified' section for mower sales but then again, they are in the UK.

If they can tell you anything about your mower it would give you something to search for or if offered for sale it would supply valuable for listing purposes.

www.oldlawnmowerclub.co.uk/forum

You do not say if the mower is running or if the blades are sharp and the condition in the pictures looks kinda 'rough' so all of these things would be deciding factors in the current value of your mower.
Also, your area will have a large bearing on value as it would be almost impossible to ship so it would be listed for sale as 'local pick up only',
Some areas may be good for vintage mowers while others would never even look at an ad.

It is possible your mower could be collectible but without more information it is difficult to do any relevant research. That is why we suggest you post to a forum to see if you can find out more about the age (date) as well as other information

There are not very many vintage lawn mower forums in the US but you might ask question on this site:

www.tapatalk.com/.../

Sales are usually very slow but I would suggest you try searching all of your local sale sites like Craigslist, OfferUp, Nextdoor, LetGo, USA4Sale, Facebook Marketplace to see how many similar mower sales are in your area as these are the best places to list your mower for sale.

You will need a few more pictures as well as a good description of the condition and anything you know about the mower (pertaining to age, where it has been stored, etc.)

You can always start your mower at a high price ($99?) and lower it if no one shows an interest.

This brand is a new one to me and when I do my research for things I don't know, I see a ton of post cards and trading cards with the brand that are still quite popular, but no actual mowers.

That is surprising to me. I found a link that may help both of us theartsmechanical.wordpress.com/.../

Perhaps someone there can give you some info on the value machine (there are no mowers by this name on eBay -- current or past--which is also surprising. I only value using SOLD auctions (what people actually pay), but I use all auctions to learn...and this mower has now piqued my curiosity!!

Old mowers fascinate me. If you learn something before I do, please post it back to this site!

Thanks!

I have a buddy that has a Pearce Mower. He hasn't been able to find any information on it. It is self propelled. Does anyone know anything about them?

I can't find this brand, either. However, what does he want to find out? If it's how to fix it, it probably works the same as many other self-propelled mowers and he could look for a manual for any brand or on YouTube. If he wants to know the value, he could go on mowpart.com.

Just curious - did you find any information on this mower? It seems it is kinda rare and especially with the sulky seat attached but value would be difficult to determine as it would be something for collectors and that is never easy to estimate.

I do have a link to a site that you can post your photo and ask for a value and an expert in that field will answer your question. This is free - no charges to you.

It's not out of the 30s it's 1950s or 60s. I have 5 or 6 coopers in my mower collection, all pre WW2. When it comes to power mowers the older the better and the post war mowers generally aren't worth much. If it was my mower I would be extatic to get $100 for it without the sulkey. The sulkey is another$50-75.

an ebay search indicates that they can go fro $50 to $300, depending on the quality, year, and demand. Definitely this is a very nice antique, and is especially valuable when it can be made to work.

Even though these are vintage lawn mowers people are still selling them for around $60. These types of machines are sort of a novelty and people love to talk about them, but they don't sell for a lot of money.
