The tree was in great health. The flowers bloomed, then one day I noticed all the flowers looked like they were eaten. Shortly after that the leaves started to turn brown and fall. It looks like a fungus on the underside of the leaves. What can I treat it with? Will I still get some fruit? I was so proud of my tree because I started it from seed.
Normally the brown leaves and what you are describing is from salt burn on the leaves. Over time there is a lot of salt build up in the soil that can cause this issue. it can also happen with fertilizers. In order to get rid of this you need to try and get rid of the salt build up in your soil. Once a week take your garden hose and and water deeply enough to leach the soil to push the salt build up down past the root system. This can take a bit of time but this will help and the tree will grow new leaves again.
Sorry if this is repetitive. I planted my tree in the ground about 1.5 years ago and I believe I overwatered it. As a result the leaves browned and have since all fallen off. The branches are still green and I actually noticed some new leaves started to come up, but they have since stopped growing.
Do you think it's done? How do we know if the tree is fully dead? How long should I wait to give the new leaves time to come back, if at all?Avocado tree lost its leaves:
I have a 9 year old avocado tree and every year when the tree blooms, all the leaves turn brown and fall off and all the buds dry up, turn brown, and fall off. The branches are always green and as everything browns and falls off there is new growth, leaves and branches and such. Only once did it bear a few avocados. I believe there were 8 of them though only two made it to full maturity.
The raccoons may have gotten the rest. The tree is a dwarf tree that we bought at a nursery and planted in our backyard. We have no idea why this happens and it does not make much sense to us because the tree continues to look healthy and grow. We have tried different fertilizers and nothing seems to help. It's about 12ft tall now.By Alison H.
There could be an infection in the root system of the tree that you're not seeing. This could cause the problem you're having with this tree. You might want to try and dig up around the root a bit and examine them. Make sure there aren't any knots on the roots and they look healthy.
My avocado tree has leaves that are turning brown. There is very little new growth. Please help.

Is your plant inside or outside? If potted, have you checked to make sure it isn't root bound?
My 3 year old avocado's new leaves are browning.

Contact your local nursery -- they'll have the answer! =D
I've been growing several beautiful avocado trees in pots and noticed one my trees started showing brown leaves. The plant was not doing well. I decided to plant it in the ground. My backyard has many different types of fruit trees.
I live in south Texas zone eight. I don't know if a fungus is attacking it or there is a lack of nutrients. I would appreciate advice.Needs Water and a good feeding and perhaps more space to grow!
It privacy needs a bigger pot. It is getting root bound.
It needs the soil changed it has salt burn ,the salt accumalates to much salt turning the leaves brown.Time to fertilize. You should fertilize 3 times a year.Follow it with a good watering.
You can still save the tree but you will need to dig it up again. I believe you used the same soil that was in the pot when you put it in the ground. Go get a bag of planting soil. Dig the tree up and check the roots. You can hit this on the ground several times to get the open and spread out. This is good for the tree and will not damage it.
Half of my 7 year avocado tree leaves are drooping. They turn brown and look to be dying. Some of the brown leaves are soft and some have dried. I am so desperate. This is the 1st year w/fruit (it only has 4).
This started about 1 1/2 weeks ago from the bottom and worked its way up. I planted it from a seed and it sprouted as 2 trunks. Just a few of the limbs on the infected tree are still green including the 2 that have fruit. I'm afraid to add any nutrients that the tree does not need and kill the rest of it. If it's an insect I don't know if it's too late for insecticide. The other half is beautiful, no sign of drooping, but what if the drooping side infects the good side? Should I prune the tree of the dying limbs? Should I leave it alone? What should I do? I'm in Orlando, FL. There is no drought and we get good rain, just like in the tropics where these plants thrive. In the dryer months I have an irrigation system. I've taken such good care of my tree; I even talk to it. LOL Can someone help me please?? I've attached pictures.
We have 6 avocado trees here and this is sort of normal this time of year. I know where you live the leaves seem to fall off in the fall and winter time. But where I live the leaves fall all year long and when it is time to bear fruit I seem to have more leaves falling from the trees. The time to trim the tree is right after all the fruit has been picked. You'll need to cut the dead branches off the tree. Check the fruit when it is picked and make sure there are no bugs on the inside of the fruit. If there is then you'll need to cut down the major branches of the tree and allow it to grow up again.
I have an avocado plant that is one and half years old. It is growing in an open garden in a medium sized pot. I am located in Melbourne, Australia. I had grown it from a seed.
It was doing well, but now it has stopped growing and the leaves have started to turn brown. I don't want it to die. What should I do? Pls suggest.I would re-pot it in a larger pot.
Here is a nice link and fact sheet for keeping this lovely plant going in your garden!
It is best to plant it they way they describe and make sure to tend to it closely in the transition days.
It should thrive once it has settled!
Post back with an update!
A couple of weeks ago the temperature reached 115 degrees. Within a couple days 1/4 of the leaves withered and turned brown.
It is a 38 year old tree, well established. What is the best remedy for such a situation? The tree was shocked by the hot weather. Keep your normal routine and it will recover
Poor tree! They do sunburn just like humans so that sounds like what you are dealing with here.
You didn't say where you are located, but calling your local agriculture college or home extension office can get you some good solutions that work best in your area to help the tree make a full recovery, but more importantly for prevention of future burns.
A family member from California has tried painting the tree trunk with white paint......but that may be different than what is recommended for your area. Every area is different, so best to the expert for your climate
If you put your town name and the phase home extension services into Google, it should come up near the top. Most have a .org at the end.
Good luck! Hope you still get a good crop of yummies!!
My avo-tree is now seven years old and is bearing fruit for the second year, why is it loosing so many brown leaves during springtime?

I have no idea how old the male tree is, but it is well over 30 feet. I live in Orlando Florida and the tree gets plenty of water and sunlight. It has been very healthy till about 3 weeks ago. Now the leaves are turning brown. We did have a frost in January and some cold weeks with temps around 45 for lows, but other than that nothing has changed. My female is still green and very healthy. What can I do for the male?

Why would a 7 month old avocado plant's leaves turn dark brown and fall off? Then new leaves come on and do the same. It's in a 5 gal. bucket with good drainage. What am I doing wrong?
