This chest was given to me as a gift. The giver repainted it. If I read the serial number correctly, its dated 1954. It is in very nice condition. I see tho that it has the dangerous kind of lock on it, which I would have removed if I thought the value would be worth the change.
Vintage Lane cedar chests sell for around $100-$700 depending on the age, condition, and whether the hardware is original. Most are worth about $200-$400. To date a Lane cedar chest reverse the three pairs of numbers that comprise the 6-digit serial number.
I would like to know the value of my 1946 Lane Cedar Chest, Style 2120, SN: 646090. Some of the veneer is off, but I believe I have most if not all of the pieces.
Thank you! This Lane cedar chest on ebay is priced @ $200:

Curious about this '43 hope chest.
The stamp and the number style tell us it is Lane from 1943. Units manufactured between 1912 and 1987 were recalled due to fatalities of young children victimized by a faulty lock design; you'll want to see whether the original lock was replaced.
How much is this worth and where is best place to sell this Lane love chest?
Sadly, in most cities in the US, lane chests have dropped in value to in the low teens. There are a few that still have value, like the 30s art deco waterfall chests, but most have little to know resale value. So sad. They were staples of so many young brides futures!!
Yours appears to be from the late 1970s. Queen Anne legs. There was one on eBay where the seller was asking $140, local pickup in Grass City, CA. If it sold at that price, that would be the market value in that town.
My friend had one in Pittsburgh and she literally could not give it away because we have so many for sale and such a low demand. I hope you are in a city with high demand and low supply! Maybe you could get the $140.
Best place to sell is through a vintage resale shop. Or if you already sell at a flea market there. If you try it on eBay, it would have to be local pickup, unless you want to pay freight shipping.
Post back how your sale goes. PS. The lock is going to need to be replaced because of the recall. If I can find the information on who to contact, I can post it if you need it.
Sad but this type of furniture is from an era that no longer exists and the value can be very low. The current trend for furniture is simplistic in that it has to be compact and very usable and easily moved. This means there is a very small market of buyers for bulky items like this.
As everyone has stated the value will depend on the condition and style but mostly from where the chest is located. Freight shipping is very expensive and would probably cost more than the chest sold for.
Finding current value will be extremely difficult because you will probably not find an identical chest that has sold in the last year.
You can look at eBay for sale listings to see what sellers are asking for other styles and maybe place a watch on any that you wish to see if they sell. Just keep in mind that asking prices are not value prices but only a price a seller would like to receive for their chest. Only sold prices can give you any idea of what someone is willing to pay and you still have to keep in mind where the chest is located.

You might want to check out local venues to see if there are any cedar chests listed for sale in your area as this could give you some inkling of present sales.
You might try listing your chest in Craigslist, USA 4 Sale, NextDoor, Facebook Marketplace, OfferUp, LetGo or any other sites you know of. List your chest as 'local pick up only' and start your price high and lower it if no one shows an interest.
You may have to be patient as almost all furniture is slow selling but maybe you will be one of the lucky ones!
Not really concerned with value because of the condition. Just trying to identity this chest we picked up. Would love to restore it but need photos to do so. Any idea what the manufacture date or year is? Thanks for any information!
This really looks like a stripper has been used to take the finish off the chest. Plus it also looks like this chest has been modified on the ends and I can see some extra wood there. Not sure what the purpose of the wood is all about unless there was some sort of a handle made to help carry the chest from one location to another. If you want to restore this chest you will probably never find one that looks like this because of the modification I am seeing here. Basically, you should go by the year the chest was made and that is determined by the serial number read backward. Then search for the different chests that were made by the company this year. You will see most of the chest had a few finishes on them depending on the wood that was used. Basically, if you can figure out the wood then it will be easier to figure out the right finish you'll need to restore the chest with.
How much is this Lane mini chest worth? I can't find anything like this one online.
This one on Etsy is very similar to yours. It is painted white and they are asking $300. www.pinterest.com/
This looks like an exact match to yours that sold in May 2019 for $35.
That to me is a little low, but the market for these type pieces is very soft right now as "brown" furniture has generally fallen out of favor with the younger buyers and the older buyers are trying to downsize and sell their pieces.
It is very lovely!! I hope where you are there is a high demand and you can fetch a little more for it!
Post back with an update. Thanks for sharing!
I have a 1945 and 1948 Lane Cedar chest. Both insides are in near perfect shape, except a missing shelf in the 48. Outsides aren't in the greatest shape but I'm sure could be repaired.
Was just wondering if anyone had a general idea on their worth.Just wondering what the possible value of this old Lane Cedar Chest would be?
I would like to know the value of this cedar chest and if it's considered an antique. It was given to my mom years ago when she became engaged. So I am thinking it was made years ago.
She got married in 1953. So it had to be made well before that I am thinking.Very well made! Not an antique. Antiques are 100 years old, by most definitions. Your piece is vintage 1950s (since you said it is from around the time when they were married).
This style is called a colonial style or most commonly a queen anne style and it is a low boy blanket chest.
I have not been able to find this exact one (ones very similar) on all of the sites I frequent.
There are a lot of the Lane catalogs online so you may even be able to find an ad for it when it was new. Their ads are very cool!
These sell consistently in the $100-$$300 range.
You will see places like Chairish offering them for much higher, but Chairish is not a good gauge of SOLD prices because they never tell what the item actually sells for.
Thanks for sharing!! Post back how your sale goes!
I recently inherited my great grandparent's Lane cedar chest and I don't really have room for it. I'm looking to get rid of it but have no clue of the value. It has some scratches and such but the inside seems nice. The lock is still the original one so I'm not sure if it would be more valuable as such or switching to the child safety lock.
The style number is 2596-3 and serial number is 150130. I'm guessing that's dated March 10, 1951? Thanks for any help.I am seeing some scratches on the front of the chest which will decrease the value of the chest when sold. I am not sure where you are living or if you want to try and sell this online. If you check the asking price and the actual sales price you'll see they differ quite a bit. Most people start asking around $175-250 for one of these chests. The ones I have found that sold recently normally sell for around $135. If you are trying to sell this locally I would suggest that you try and do a bit of research for your area. People are not actually buying this type of item that much anymore. It is still possible to sell one because I have seen a few that were sold but it has been a while. Considering the condition of the chest you may be able to get around $75-125 for this. You can try to list on eBay but then you need to take into consideration the shipping cost of sending this off to the buyer. I would try to list this one on FaceBook and indicate it is a local pick up and see if you can sell it this way.
Hi, I have two Lane Chests that my boss bought and wants me to find the value of the pieces to sell. I can't find one like these. Does anyone have and idea as to a price range?
First chest was made 11-15-1987, serial number is 2785111 style 5530 70.
This cedar chest is a bit larger than other cedar chests that the average selling price for them is 125-175. You can start selling this one at around $250 and go from there. I would try and sell it locally if I were you because if you try and sell it online there is a lot of completion and it does take longer to sell. Plus if you sell this online and the buyer is out of state you need to worry about how you are going to ship this to them.
This belonged to my husband's grandmother, who was born in 1911 and married in 1928. It's in fantastic shape with the original finish. The inside is pristine and doesn't even look like it's been used. One piece of wood veneer on the bottom is missing where the serial number had been.
The style number in the card says 44841. I assume she had it when she married. Any ideas as to the year it was made and possible value?I found your exact Lane and it is attributed to 1929. You have the model number in your post. If there is a serial number, you should be able to confirm this (it should have 6 or 7 digits--if it is 7, drop the last digit as that is the plant where it was made):

In some markets, because it is unusual and pristine, you may fetch up to 300 dollars (retail) for it! That is great since most of the Lane we see on this site are newer and in used condition.
Furniture sales are very regional so you will want to try to sell it in the largest market you can to get the most exposure and the most money for it. If you are in or near a big city that has big old homes, I would market it there.
Since these are hard to sell quickly, my recommendation would be to find a good dealer (antique/vintage/furniture reseller) and have them either buy it outright or consign it for you. You will get a little less, but get it the most exposure!
Thanks for sharing this lovely piece!!
If you are looking to sell the chest it is a good idea to sell it locally through a dealer and not online. This way you avoid the shipping cost and they can be expensive for a large item like this. Today people are listing these chest online starting at $200 and all the way to $300.
