I went to dye my hair from dirty blonde back to my natural hair color, light brown. As it was drying I noticed patches of grayish/blue.

I'm so confused. What can I put on my hair to cover the gray and make it brown?

Here is a simple fix for your blue gray hair color:

  1. Mix 3 parts lemon juice with one part conditioner.
  2. Apply this mixture to your hair and leave it on the hair for 1 hour.
  3. After 1 hour towel dry your hair.
  4. Now blow dry your hair.
  5. After this take a shower and shampoo and condition your hair.
  6. This will remove the blue-gray color in your hair and return your hair back to the normal color again.

So my natural hair is honey blonde, but I dyed it a dark brown. I don't want to keep dyeing it, but want to turn it back to blonde.

The salon said I'd have to bleach it! Is there a better more natural way to fix it?

You have three options here. The safest is to just let it grow out, trimming the colored portion out as it grows. Next option would be getting plenty of highlights to lighten the overall color & blend the roots, with less damage. This option helps make the growing out process less of a contrast between the color and the new roots, without damaging all of your hair. The final option is what the stylist has already recommended, involving color remover or bleach to remove the brown, and a toner to help those ends match the rest of your hair. This of course would be the most harsh solution, although also the most effective.

Unfortunately unless the color you have in is only semi-permanent, there is no truly gentle way to remove it, because when you use permanent color, the color molecules migrate into the spaces in your hair's cuticle, which have been opened by the peroxide in the permanent color mixture. When the color is rinsed out the cuticle closes over the new color molecules. This is why it requires bleaching/color remover to remove it- these processes open the cuticle very wide so the color molecules can come out, while not adding any more color. Do not attempt to dye the brown part blonde, because all that will do is add more color molecules to the ones already in there. Good luck!

Hair normally grows about an inch a month. Luckily yours is short already and color usually fades out so I don't think it will look bad at all. Just continue to get it trimmed with a shaggier end rather than blunt to soften your look and reduce the color difference. Good luck!

Unless the dye was a non-permanent type, your hair is permanently changed by the dye chemicals used. You can try a color similar to your natural hair color and then let your hair color grow in.

I would have a salon put my original color highlights in the hair and then get a cut into a cute short style that is most becoming to start working back to it's natural color. That way you get rid of damaged hair and it will get back to it's original color quicker shorter... Good Luck!

Curiosity kills me as always. I'm curious about my hair. When I dyed it at first, it had a bleach. So, it was more of a light-brown color. Then the second time I dyed my hair, my hair color was like gold, brown, yellowish. Just like that. Our school doesn't allow my hair color, so I turned it into light-brown.

Now, I want to return back to my original hair color which was dark brown. So, please, answer me. Just give me advice or home remedies. So, I can return it back.

When you dye the hairs that came out of your brush, compare them to your natural hair color. If one comes exact or close enough do your hair with that color. If not, keep trying.

Go to beauty supply store like Sally's and get a Demi permanent deposit only color. It will cover it with no damage .

Also get some Argan oil and do some treatments with it to get it back healthy.

I went through the same thing after coloring my daughters hair the school would not allow the color.. I tried to fix it myself ( big mistake) I finally took her to professional hair dresser they had to dye her hair 3 shades darker than what we had dyed it plus cut off a lot.. I guess being the mother I should hav looked at the school handbook first lol

My hair was black brown and then one summer I asked my mom to give me highlights. They didn't turn out how I wanted them to so I dyed it black. It left some brown (from the highlights) so I just recently, yesterday, dyed it again. I asked my mom for black, but she got dark brown.

So I dyed it once again and now the roots and a bit lower are brown (super noticeable) and the rest of the hair is dark brown. I hate it, I just want my original hair color back! What do I do?

It will be a two step process to lift the darker black color and deposit the lighter brown color. Go to a professional or a beauty school

You will have to use a hair stripper. But, stripping your hair does dry it out.

Try a semi-permanent dye in the color you like. You don't want to process your hair so soon after this dye job.

Use baking soda and a cheap shampoo on your hair it will help the color come out faster.

The best way to get back your natural hair color is to let ur hair just grow out, wash at regular intervals and trim regularly

March 8, 20170 found this helpful

If you use a strong medicated shampoo, such as Head and Shoulders, it will make the color fade out. This will take a while but it will be quicker than growing it out.

About 3-4 weeks ago, I dyed my hair brown with Casting Creme Gloss (semi-permanent). I've already grown tired of my brown hair and I've been trying to strip out the color the past week by doing multiple vitamin c treatments, washing my hair with dish soap, and today I tried dandruff shampoo. The color has faded, but there's a lot left. Bleaching Hair After Dyeing

Before I dyed my hair brown, I had faded green dip dye and half my hair was bleached. I want to go back to my natural blonde and use Schwarzkopf balayage kit, but is it safe to use it now? The second picture shows my hair just before dying it brown.

I am naturally brown. I recently got blonde highlights in my hair. I got sick of the highlights in my hair and went dark brown. I used a semi-permanent hair dye. A year and 6 months have passed and I don't know if my hair has returned back to natural. In certain lighting it's looking as though I have caramel highlights in my hair! Is that my natural hair coming through or is it my blonde highlights? Help!

Those are your highlights showing through. Although the darker brown dye is permanent, it will slowly wear away, and those bright places that were your highlights will appear as caramel places. This happens to me also. Your natural color will only appear at the roots as your hair grows.

Using your regular shampoo, do daily washings. Do not use anything harsh. Most self given hair dyes have a short life span. I am a swimmer and 3 weeks is all I get from my OTC less than $8 boxes. I have found a few about $10-15 that will give me 60 days....

Do not keep mixing more hair dye until the problem resolves itself....the hair is going to rebel from the chemicals and you would hate to deal with a permanent serious issue.
If you can afford a short hair cut, that is one way to really change the color faster. I always do my hair color before getting a hair cut.

The way your question is posed causes one to believe you are asking if your hair will revert, on its own, back to the color it was before 'dyeing' it. If this is so, the answer is probably, 'No'.

The term 'dye' is outdated and usually refers to the earlier Paraphenylene diamines which were true dyes. They were harsh and did not leave translucency to the hair.

Today's hair coloring products, aside from the 'progressive dyes' such as hennas, are available in three forms of permanence. They are, the weekly rinse, the semi permanent colors which usually last from four to six weeks, and the permanent hair colors which last until they are either cut off or grown out. All three leave a degree of translucency to the hair.

My answer was 'probably 'No'. If you used a permanent color, the answer is 'No'. If you used a semi permanent color (and taking other factors into consideration), it is possible that the color will in time, gradually fade to the point your hair approaches the color it was before color was applied. Again, this is not a definite answer. Too much is unknown. For example, was your hair a natural blond or had it been bleached?

It depends what kind of a dye you used. A permanent dye may fade, but will never revert back to your natural color. Semi-permanent dyes will fade in 6 to 20 shampoos, depending upon the strength of the dye. Some dyes wash out the next shampoo.

My natural hair color is a dark ash blonde. I got bored of my hair color and wanted to dye it so I dyed it a dark chocolate brown. I used a product by Natural Instincts. When I washed my hair and let it dry naturally my hair turned black at the top and a really dark brown black color at the bottom. I went to my cousin so she could strip some of it out and it was still too dark, so then she gave me this color eraser. I used that and my hair turned orange.

I went back to her the next day and she dyed it brown again so then I left my hair alone for a while. Then I dyed my twin sister's hair a color close to mine to match because we like to match with everything most of the time. The color of the dye turned her hair a light warm mahogany brown red color, so I used some coconut oil and vinegar to strip some of the red out and got some of the really red color out, but it left it a copper color. So she and I go buy some Color Oops and it turned her hair orange and it smelled bad. She was stuck with the smell in her hair for the longest time. It eventually faded out after doing it so many times. Then we used the Color Oops on my hair and my hair matched the color of leaves in the fall and it matched my family's log home and the porch. So we did it a second time. My hair got even brighter so then she and I go to this place called Borricks and they toned her hair out and mine out. She had hers toned once and I had mine toned twice. It sucked and our hair was still orange. So we went this salon and asked them if they could fix our hair color so it could get back to its original color and they ended up dyeing it brown again! And I'm still stuck with that same color and my sister's hair is a shade or two darker than mine. I'm at a loss as to what to do at this point and just want my natural color back. It really saddens her and I. Can some one please help and give some really good advice?

Firstly, I'm amazed your hair doesn't break when you brush it. All that chemical? Can you be patient and just let it grow back, keep trimming until all the fake colour is gone?

How do you feel about shaving your head and wearing wigs, hats and scarves until it grows in? If you get a nice collection of wigs, you might never want to dye your hair again!

It's going to be a matter of time for it to grow back out to its original color. I certainly would not damage it further with any more products. I got tired of dyeing my hair brunette as I got older and as my hair was turning gray. So I streaked my hair as I eased into just the gray hair. It worked fine for me but it sounds like you get unusual responses with color jobs!! Good luck.

You can try using henna, or strong coffee or tea for a temporary color that will last until you shampoo it out. It will not harm your already over-processed hair.

As a former hairdresser, I strongly advise you to stop doing anything at this time! I'm very surprised that your hair hasn't broken off given all that you have done to it. Simply wait and let it grow out, the get a good cut to remove the old color. The professionals did the best they could to get you out of the red/orange. Be patient! I can say this to you because I have done all kinds of chemical things to my own hair over the years, once having it break off at the scalp! YIKES! I KNOW you don't want that to happen! Good Luck!

My daughter got blonde highlights added to her light brown hair. I didn't want them at the roots of her hair so I asked the hairdresser to cover the roots. The colour turned out too dark and completely different than the brown in her hair. We tried the vitamin C and Head and Shoulders fixes and it did lighten it a bit, but has left a slight ginger tone to it.

Should we try it again? What's the best way for my daughter to go back to her natural colour with a few blonde bits through it?

Permanent dye may fade, but will never come out. That's why it's called permanent.
Hair grows about 1/2 inch a month. It will grow about 6 inches a year. Therefore, it will take a couple of years to grow out your hair if you like it longer.

February 8, 20170 found this helpful

it totally depends on how fast your hair grows... the dye will fade a bit over time but it willhave to grow out to be totally grown ... one thing you might do if your dye is dramatic from your own color, is to use a rinse until all the permanent grows out

I had black hair last week. My natural hair color is white. I have used Nirvel Color Out like 15 times and my hair within a week has become orange and my roots are platinum blonde.

I have tried to use a lighter hair dye to dye my hair and camouflage the orange like Igoria Royal E-0 with a 9% vol and the color is getting darker like a chocolate brown! I have also tried to lighten it with a bleaching powder and 9%. I let it sit on my hair for about 20-30 minutes and it got darker too. I'm desperate, I don't know what to do to lighten my hair from orange to blond. Maybe lift it 2-3 tones so they match my roots better. The color I want to end up is light grey to match my natural white roots better. Please help!

Would you consider going a bit wild and trendy for a while (if you're not already) I thought maybe you could go for stripes during the transition from one colour to another while your natural colour grows out. So I had a look through google images to see if I could find something along those lines and found this

2.bp.blogspot.com/.../041a25a03147bd67795c76d1c4d9707e...

Of course you could use more muted colours if that's more your style, and I think the effect is lovely and would look good at any age and any length of hair.

You could also if you are brave enough, have all your hair shaved off for a cancer charity (!) and start again

There is a product at WalMart, and other stores, probably, called COLOR OOPS - while it won't restore your color, it will take the color you didn't like out a lot. The dye I used recently came out way, way dark, and I thought of using a lighter color but came across COLOR OOPS - loved it! Left my hair a nice shade & nice feel. Gave me time to grow out back to natural color. It also allows you to use another color immediately, if you want. Awesome product! And cheap, under $10 here in NH.

I am a natural redhead. I dyed my hair chocolate brown but it came out dark brown, almost black. I managed to get it to fade a little bit, but not much. My red hair and old highlights are slowly coming through. My question is what should I do to speed up the process? I am trying to grow my hair long for my formal next year.

My hair is just past my shoulders. I went to a hairdresser a while a go for a cut, but she butchered my hair. She made one side shorter than the other, and butchered some parts of the back of my hair. The thickness camouflages it unless you look really close. So just wondering, should I let all these problems grow out or go to hairdresser?
