Use a Tally Counter When Grocery Shopping

To help save money when grocery shopping or shopping for multiple items anywhere, use a tally counter to keep track of your spending and don't be surprised when you get to the register. Calculators never work for me because I always end up zeroing by mistake.

How do you use it? It counts in ones - do I click once for every penny? That's a lot of clicking...

Fantastic idea. I tried this once with an old plastic grocery tally counter thing (my mother used one in the 60's) but it kept jamming and I sort of forgot about it. I am going to pick up one of these today.

We have been spending way too much on groceries- it just seems to creep up higher every week. How do those on low and/or fixed incomes do it?

I use one of the old plastic grocery counters. It unfortunately only counts up to $20 but I still use it. I just round up the change portion of the price and when I get to the $20 mark I write it down and keep going.

It's a great feeling when I'm at the register and the bill is less than what the counter says!

mgmnt.) & possibly hope to buy 12 others & label them (various nutrients)..i.e. no scraps of paper/adding/etc. ... i.e. "dual use" potential

I tried the contact form at 5and10.com and got an error. i'm not sure if this is a working website or not. Another time I got network solutions that the domain name is for sale. Until we find out if these guys are in business or not, I wouldn't recommend ordering.

Where can one find this grocery counter? I can't find the counter on the 5and10 site?

Editor's Note: They don't seem to have them anymore.

Yes, but is there any other place that carries them?

Editor's Note: We've been looking but haven't found any.

I used one of these as a young housewife in the mid 70's, at " the5and10.com", under organizers, you can find the " handy adder" for $4.99, it will go to $99.99, there hard to find in the stores, I haven't seen one in years.

Exactly what I am searching for. I had a red one like this back in the 80's. Wish I knew where I could buy one.

It will also come in handy for score keeping. I'll search online (but trying Ebay first). Wish me luck.
