My granddaughter keeps coming home from daycare with head lice. I have done the spray and wash everything in hot water. Any other solutions? This doesn't seem to work.

Keep doing what you're doing but also contact the daycare provider. If you are following the directions on the lice killing chemicals and nit ridding on your granddaughter, the only thing that makes sense is that the daycare provider is not getting rid of the lice there. Either the group area is not being deloused properly or one of the other children is living in a home that isn't being deloused properly.
Ask me how I know. My daughter (now 34 and would be mortified to know I'm sharing this story) caught head lice three times during kindergarten. The third time she begged me to shave her head the way one of her classmate's mother did. I was at the school in a flash insisting my child would not return until that whole school was cleaned, and someone went out the classmate's home to help that mother eliminate the lice her son kept bringing to school.
A group of mothers contributed to a fund to buy that family enough supplies to properly delouse. It can be very expensive if the infestation is well entrenched. We knew the child's family didn't have the money to do the job properly.
It worked, my daughter never had head lice again. The little boy's family got some help, and the school was cleaned up. The young man was able to grow his hair to a normal length, poor kid.
The daycare provider needs to prove to you they have properly addressed the problem. Insist on seeing receipts from a pest control firm, and that they've identified the child who is bringing lice back because his/her home is not being deloused properly. And hopefully, if the family is on a very tight budget, you and the other families will be able to help them get the supplies they need to take care of the problem.
If your daughter keeps bringing them home, you may want to make sure they aren't staying home. Wash her hair in Mayonaise every day, using a shower cap to keep it on, and once she stops having them, they won't transfer to her bed.

At the first sign of head lice, wash and condition hair, then work a fine metal comb through the wet hair. Rinse in 1 liter of water containing 2 drops of cajeput oil, 5 drops of tea tree oil and 4 drops of lemon oil.
Sorry to be so blunt but unless you remove her from that particular daycare, you aren't going to get rid of them. It's not fair that she should be going through all this hassle when it's not her fault.
Go to your drug store and get the proper delousing supplies. You can't get rid of them with mayonnaise and other home remedies. Lice like clean hair even better than dirty hair, so you must use the proper shampoos to get rid of the lice. Then you have to delouse the house and clothes.
I agree that you may have to speak to the people at the daycare about the problem if there is continual re-infestation.
Not any more the chemicals do not work on super lice . Per doctors . Vegetable oil 12 hour wash out . Than rise hair in vinger and water than net comb do Every three days for two week. They told us the medical stuff doesn't work anymore
Three things:
1) Naptime mats need to be replaced at the daycare,if there are any,as well as cubbies,or other storage bins where overcoats and scarves would be stored (turn the daycare onto tip #3, below).
2)And secondly,if your couch cushions will unzip,take them out,wash the fabric part,and put the foam rubber part inside two huge lawn and leaf bags and leave them there for at least two weeks. Same thing for any pillows it would be safe to cover with garbage bags. As long as they cannot feed for two weeks, they will die out.
3) Go to your garden center at walmart or wherever and look for spray for aphids on roses. it contains the same pyrethrins for 2.99 as the 12.99 lice sprays. The pyrethrins are derived from chrysanthemums, so they are safe for use around the children. I washed coats, cushion covers,pillows, towels-you name it,with the Aphid spray and hot water,and rented a carpet cleaner and used the Aphid spray in the solution tank. Problem solved !
Dawn dish soap all the way!! My poor 3 year old... I have tried everything from mayo...yuko! Oils, otc crap and nothing worked like dawn! You don't even have to let it sit on hair for hours it hands down kills bugs instantly if you don't bleve it find a bug and put a Lil soapy dawn on it and watch...:)!!! Course it don't kill the eggs so you still need to condition and comb out if they are in school but the trick is...wen the lice hatch they don't lay eggs till they are 10 days old. So eggs hatch after 7 days that means wash hair in dawn every 3 days with dawn for 2 weeks then wash hair with dawn 1 a week (every 7 days) no more lice ever Im telling ya easy, cheap, safe, I'm actually still in shock over something so common as dawn and yet people still put pesticides in hair...amazing really!
Using a hair straightener (hot iron ) will demolish the eggs .
