Homemade Playdough

Make homemade playdough with your little ones. The recipe is edible, just in case some goes in the mouth. Homemade Playdough

 

Approximate Time: 15 minutes

Supplies:

  • 2 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup salt
  • 4 tablespoons cream of tartar
  • 2 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • food coloring
  • medium sized pot

Instructions:

  1. Combine all of the ingredients into the pot, leaving out the food coloring. Cook over medium heat and stir about 3 to 5 minutes. It will look like a globby mess and you'll think it is not turning out, but it will. Kneading Playdough 2
     

  2. When it forms a ball in the center of the pot, take it and knead it on a lightly floured surface. Playdough in a Pot

  3. Divide into balls and drop food coloring into each ball. Knead until the color in even. Adding Color to Playdough
     

  4. Store in an airtight container or plastic bag. Rolls of colorful homemade playdough

I love playdough! I wouldn't want to eat this with all the salt content though...ewww. I love to form shapes and I always remember to take photos of them before they get squished. Thanks for this recipe!

This is great. I was just telling my 6 year old granddaughter the other day that we would make some playdough and that she could have any color she wanted. She was just amazed that she can make her own playdough. I found these Zip-Loc bowls that come 6 to a pack and have snap-loc lids, they are just the right size for this. Can't wait to get started!
