Taken by the river at Nesika County Park, these butterflies were playing in the grass and trees nearby. These are very common butterflies along the Oregon Coast, as I see them often near blossoms and once even at the beach!
I liked the orange and blue colors at the base of the wings. I can't say for certain, but I believe this is a male, as it is brighter and was landing above, in a dominating position, the other duller butterflies.

Lol, the butterfly isn't really that huge. It's called macro photography. You get close to the subject and use perspective and angles, then sometimes cropping, to make your subject larger in the photo than in life.
Interesting! Butterflies were pretty much the only insect that didn't terrify me when I was little.
