Homemade Herb Butters

Bronze Post Medal for All Time! 107 Posts

Herb butters can be quite expensive if purchased at a deli or market. A frugal way to enjoy delicious flavored butter is to make your own. It's this simple:

Let the desired amount of butter you wish to flavor sit at room temperature until softened, about 20 minutes.

Stir in whatever flavor you desire. This step is your opportunity to release your creativity and imagination to create some unique flavors.

Wrap the butter in wax paper and store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. Or, put the butter in a freezer bag or carton and place it in the freezer for up to 6 months.

Herb butter is an excellent homemade gift for the holidays. Put it in a decorative container or glass jar with a decorative ribbon.

Suggestions for flavor ideas:

  • dried basil, oregano, and sun-dried tomatoes

  • dried rosemary

  • sun-dried tomatoes, grated Parmesan cheese, and crushed red pepper flakes

  • grated orange, lemon, lime, or grapefruit peel

The ideas are limitless.

I like to make my herb butters, then pipe them with a decorative tip into pats on waxed paper. Lay them flat in the freezer, freeze until firm, then store iin zip lock bags until needed.
