H's Take on Kansas BBQ Sauce

This is a wonderful thick sauce that I use with chicken tenders and it really makes them plump and juicy when baked. We like them better than fried tenders. Don't use this sauce for dipping because it may be too strong to do so.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/4 cup vinegar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 3 Tbsp. olive oil
  • 2 Tbsp. paprika
  • 1 Tbsp. chili powder
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced (or garlic powder to taste)
  • 1 tsp. cayenne pepper (if I use it at all, I use 1/4 tsp. instead)

Directions:

Heat olive oil in sauce pan. Add garlic and saute until brown. Add remaining ingredients and reduce heat. Simmer for 15 minutes or until thickened. Make sure to cover this with a lid as it tends to splash a bit.
