Bronze Post Medal for All Time! 104 Posts

Someone mentioned Craigslist on the ThriftyFun website. I went there and am having so much fun. I want to thank whoever gave that suggestion to go there to find something you are looking for.

I have sold over $100 on items I've picked up at the curb. I fix it, stain it, or just clean it and then sell it on Craigslist.org. It's local so people search for their state and then the city near them and then do their shopping.

All communication is done through e-mail unless one or the other chooses to give out their phone #. I always meet them at a mall or restaurant to exchange $ and the item they bought. I take someone with me if I can for security sake. It's a way to get rid of bigger items that didn't sell at your garage sale.

Of course you wouldn't want to sell clothing or small items. I don't think people would waste their time driving for them. Unless it's an unusual item like collectibles. Anyway, I just wanted to share that with all you Thrifty Fun, frugal living friends on this website. Thanks again!

CRAIGSLIST ROCKS...But you do have to be careful. I might have been one of many who suggested it, and it does give local people a chance to get or get rid of cool stuff. So far, I have sold two dressers, a rocker, a lamp, two quilts, fabric and yarn, jewelry and about 1800.00 worth in the last 13 months.

However, there are a few things to be aware of. Someone who might not want your competition on the same day or the same town, for a similar item they don't want others to see, can "flag" you. That means they can bump your ad off for no reason, and no one but CL knows who did it. It's mean, but it's legal.
Others might not like you taking up so much space on your ads, and I was having a "10.00" sale, posting four photos of four things for 10.00 each, one after the other. I was pretty new then and they had a good point. While they didn't flag me, some veterans just said "why not set up a website and ask us to visit or have a yard sale"...

I find furniture tends to go fast, esp' if there is a good photo. Be honest and say what is wrong, so people don't think you are wasting their time, and also, if it's a big item, you don't shlep it out over and over again.

If you have a nice scanner, put smaller things on it like jewelry, books, music, etc. With rings, I hold the ring up on a pencil so the scanner gets a better shot, then lay it down for a scan so people can see the sides, too.
Craft supplies go fast, as do holiday things. If you have four things that are similar, it's best to put them all in one listing. Then, if you sell one, simply delete the photo and edit the contents of your listing so it's no longer in the description.

It's great if you are looking for something, too. I found a Tupperware Lazy Susan on their website, and saved the photo, then put it on CL and said "does anyone have this...any color...this is what I can pay...". Advertising yard sales and events are great, too. It's a wonderful tool. I am glad you like it as much as us "veterans" do!!

There was an article on the local news, here (in Southern NV) in the past 2 days, involving Craig's List in a land scam deal. A huge mess!!

This site is the best! I have bought and sold so much stuff on it I can't believe it. As with any Internet site you have to use your head and be careful. I never go to see an item alone and if I'm the seller I put the item in the front of the garage or outside and I always make sure I have someone there with me when I show it.

What fun when you find something unusual or different and for a good price, too.
