Put Dirty Cat Litter in an Old Coffee Can

Save the can that coffee came in and the lid. When empty, use the can to put dirty cat litter in, the kind that lumps and put the lid on top. This will keep the odor at bay and can be used several times. You will not have to go out to the garbage can to empty litter very often. When I need to empty it, I just pour it into a plastic bag from the grocery store and then take it to the garbage can.

If you have a friend who works for a store that sells bulk coffee - you can also ask them for the heavy plastic/foil bags the coffee is stored in. They are not recyclable - but are great for cat litter or other garbage that smells, as they contain and mask the odor and can be rolled down to close.

This would work even better if you put the plastic bag from the grocer in the can before putting in the used litter. Then when it is full just pull out the bag and discard. No messing around with pouring it into the bag.

We have two cats and we use an Oatmeal Box lined with a plastic grocery bag. When full we just lift the plastic bag out of the Oatmeal Box, tie it up and dispose of it along with the rest of our house waste.

Re-line the Oatmeal Box with a new plastic bag and you are ready to go again.

I use the bags the cat food comes in and bags from Cheetos. These are well lined and I close them with a large, plastic clothes pin. This eliminates all odor and then I put them in the trash which is picked up twice a week.
