How Many Days Till Christmas Chain

Your kids will soon (if nor already!) start with the "how many days until..." litany. Have them make a paper chain using construction paper or even leftover wrapping paper with 25 links on it. Each day from Dec 1 until Christmas, remove 1 link. Kids need the visual to get the IDEA! You could easily do this for Chanukah too, or Kwanzaa with appropriate colors and the right number of links!

After Thanksgiving, the rush is on toward Christmas. To keep kids from asking "How many days..." every day, let them make a paper chain with links that equal the number of days till Christmas. Each evening before bed remove one link. The shorter the chain, the closer Christmas gets. Very good for the wee ones to whom a number like 17 is meaningless, but they can see the chain shrinking.

How Many Days Till Christmas Chain

I did this one year with my daughter, but on each chain I put something to do to get ready for Christmas. It could be something like mail the Christmas letter, put up the tree, buy or make a gift for a friend. The simple act of being involved makes the time go faster and the kids be less preoccupied with what Santa is going to bring them. (11/10/2004)

have a link and when your child takes the link off every night make it have something written behind it; like if you are good tomorrow you will get a early present from santa - a chocolate. (08/09/2007)
