Paint Can Cookie Jar

Stell Rivet

This is a really cute way to wrap up your cookies plus a great way to keep your cookies fresh since the can is air tight. Finished can with cookies.

Supplies:

  • new empty paint can
(You can purchase these at any home improvement store such as Lowes. I have seen them for anywhere from $1.00 to $3.00. Make sure to use a "new" paint can.)
  • tissue paper
  • wide ribbon for bow
  • cookies or other tasty delights
  • cellophane tape (double sided or regular)

Supplies.

Directions:

  1. Rinse out the paint can and dry.
  2. Place two pieces of tissue paper off set from each other inside the paint can. Allow the tissue paper to stick out of the can.
  3. Wrap ribbon around the can and tie a bow. Tape in place.
  4. Place cookies or other tasty delights inside. Fold inner tissue paper down to cover cookies let the second piece of tissue paper stick out. Pound the lid in place.

Note: If it will be a couple of days before you give this gift, place the cookies in a ziplock bag before putting them into the can.

Closed can with cookies on countertop.

Great idea. You can add your own creative paint design or stickers. Or plain with the beautiful bow. Really nice and your cookies stay fresh.:)

I sent each of our kids favorite cookies to them in paint cans, I put
custom homemade labels for the outside of each of their cans. Inside I
put a certificate that allowed them to have their cans refilled all year
after they were empty. They loved this idea. One out of four kids
regularly had their cookie can refilled. It was a lot of fun making and giving this gift.

GREAT IDEA

Super idea, but of course my twisted mind had to do something curmudgeonly with it. So go for it! Use your imagination with this and there's no telling what you might create! You don't even have to be an old curmudgeon like me, you could be a young child who likes to draw and paint flowers or something. *IF* you're a young child get an adult to help you, but choose one who will promise to mostly stay out of your way. Get some enamel or bulletin paint in your choice of colors, a few small brushes, and you can create a one-of-a-kind work of art on that can!

If you don't want a silver background you might spray-paint the can (outside only!) with the color of your choice before applying your artwork; be sure to find out if you'll need a primer coat for this.

One further note: be sure the paints (primer, background, artwork, lettering, etc.) are all compatable with each other. I'd be inclined to go with all enamel, but different strokes for different folks.
