Keeping a Spreadsheet to Monitor Budget

I use a spreadsheet I made up to list all expenses and income right down to the penny. The spreadsheet lists income, and then all expenses such as groceries, gas, each utility, eating out, prescriptions, credit card bills, miscellaneous expenses (which I describe at the bottom of spreadsheet), absolutely everything.

It is updated every couple of days and balances with my check register which is kept on an 8 1/2 x 11 inch paper. The spreadsheet shows the whole year at a glance so at the end of the year, on one sheet of paper, you have all your income and expenses, and you can see where your hard earned money has gone, as it is automatically in categories.

how do I send you my email privately to get the spreadsheet. I would really appreciate it if you could tell me how to get it to you without it showing up on the public forum.

You can send a private message to any member by clicking on their name, which will forward you to their account page. You should see the message button clearly then.

Hard to read from picture, but the months are across the page, and expenses are down the side. You have the year at a glance on just one sheet of paper and can tell what you are spending per item at any given time.

I have been doing this for over a year now. It was part of my plan to save money while having less coming in. There are of course other parts to my plan, but this reminds me of what I have spent as it is easy to forget.

Also after a year I have decided there are things I don't really need so much. It certainly curbed my trips to the vending machine at work for soft drinks!

Marti, this is a great idea, I can't track every penny, but I keep a running estimate spreadsheet. I found a simple spreadsheet works best for my screen-reader, since I can set the audio function to read the column titles as I arrow from one to the next. I've also been using this spreadsheet to keep track of when we bought the last bag of dog food, and just started tracking how many until our next freebie (we get every 13th bag free at our local feed store.)
