Cheap Dental Work?

I will be 60 in a few months. I can not work and I need major dental work. I do not have many teeth left and probably need dentures. Where can I find cheap dental work?

Check with your department of social services and see if they know of any places that will do cheap or free dental work. I know some states have things like that, and I assume the department of social services would know.

In some places dental schools do this, however in my state the dental schools only do exams and cleaning. There is also a medical/dental clinic that does things on a pro-rated basis. They also only accept medicare patients. You just have to do some checking to find what is available in your area.

First my heart goes out to you! One of the 1st things I ever shared with this site, I completely understand. Don't give up hope there is help out there. I was able to get mine by doing a TV show, before I was blessed with that option I extensively looked into this problem. With "new" laws even with some health care or retirement plans they do NOT include dental services.

Call first 211 ask about dentist in your area or near that have clinic days to help people like you. They are credited, well known dentist who are giving back.

Second, look for schools of dentistry around you or I recommend as far as you can travel. They need people who will allow the students to work on (lab people also). Always there are skilled, licensed dentist watching every move. No need to worry, you will be in good hands!

Maybe better way, I look at it with schools of any kind. They want to make good grades as well as get in the hours required to graduate.

Lastly, since I have had mine done my dear friend contacted Catholic Charities for her daughters work before braces. When she took her daughter they gave my friend help for her dental needs. If they do not do this in your area it is a great organization with so many out reaches to help guild you in a way to get help. Sometimes it is by donating money, other times Dr. and dentists have given their names in case like yours to help out the community.

I'm always amazed that when we are good to others it comes back to us one day. Don't get discouraged there is help out there for you. Many blessings to you! God bless.

I'm going to try this again as my first answer didn't go through.
Don't forget to check out medical and dental discount programs. They are not insurance mind you but discount plans. We use Ameriplan Dental because we have no dental insurance. We were looking at close to $9000 for my son's braces without insurance now we are paying close to $2000 with the discount dental plan.
Hope this helps.

If you have a dental school in your area, often times they will offer discounted dental services, the students are supervised by dentists while performing the work. Also some dentists will allow you to set up a payment plan.

I do not have insurance either and I found that I needed dental work too.
So I called up the dental school where I live and they had me come in for an interview to see if I was ellegable. I was and now I am getting all my dental work done for 60% off of regular practice prices.

The students do a great job and I feel that they give better attention to you. Call around, it's worth the looking.

I don't know where you live but we live in New Jersey. My husband is on SSI (disability) and he is going to UMDNJ in Newark which is a teaching hospital.

He had gotten prices for a bunch of dental work and dentures for about $8800 from a private dentist but after going to this teaching hospital its going to cost about $3500 $4000. Check to see if you have a teaching hospital or dental school near you. Also check to see if your nearest hospital has a dental clinic. Hope this helps.
