How do you remove red Sharpie from a brass doorknob?

Alcohol or denatured alcohol should do it.
Used a Q tip dipped in rubbing alcohol and it took the Sharpee right off the metal tag.
Rubbing alcohol does not work, just tried before I searched for solutions.
I'm surprised. I've removed sharpie from metal with isopropyl alcohol before. It's always my go to for removing ink from anywhere.
Maybe try nail polish remover?
!00% acetone works best for removing any permanent marker marks on surfaces--including countertops!
I haven't tried it myself, but read recently that if you go over permanent marker with dry erase marker, then rub it off with the dry erase brush both marks will be removed. Good luck.

Your comment on using dry erase markers and a dry erase eraser to remove permenant marker from brass is spot on! It took about 6 cycles of application and erasing to get it totally removed, but it did remove it without damaging the patina on the piece.
In a hidden place take the sharpie and make a mark, let it dry then write over the mark again and quickly wipe both marks. The new ink should remove the old. You may have to do this more than once. If it satisfies you here, go to the real mark you need to remove and repeat without letting the ink dry. Also try nail polish remover, again in a hidden place always when experimenting.
