Botanical Name: Torenia fournieri
Life Cycle: annuals, self-sowing
Planting Time: spring
Height: 8" to 12"
Exposure: partial to full shade
Soil: well-drained, nutrient rich soil that is neutral or mildly acidic
Hardiness: n/a
Bloom Time: continuously from summer and fall
Flower: blue, white, pink and purple combinations, sometimes with a yellow or white spot on central petals

Propagation: seeds, self-sowing
Suggested Use: edging, beds, rock gardens, pots, containers, and borders
Growing Hints: Seeds are tiny, slow growing and best started indoors 10 weeks before last frost date. Cover seeds lightly with soil. Transplant seedlings 6 to 8 inches apart. Keep plant moist (not wet) and apply fertilizer on a regular basis throughout their extensive flowering period. Deadhead if you want to avoid seedlings the second season. Grow best in zones 8-11.
Interesting Facts: Smaller Torenia varieties are somewhat more fragile that larger varieties. They can be potted and brought in as houseplants in the winter.

These flowers reseed here in Mississippi and I literally had thousands this Spring!!!! Last year they were mostly blue and this year I have all the colors mentioned. They are such happy plants but definitely need to be deadheaded or they don't bloom well. They are so special as small arrangements in the bath or bedroom.
