Organizing Dirty Laundry

My sorting of dirty laundry begins with the hamper I toss it into. I have a separate white circular hamper for white mostly cotton clothes. As for the others, I separate permanent press andhang-up clothes from folded clothes, such as colored tee shirts and underwear. Towels and washcloths are also washed by themselves. It is best to launder delicate lingerie, such as, bras, girdles, and fancy nightgowns together, perhaps in a mesh bag, so the hooks don't get stuck to anything.

Organizing laundry is so much simpler if you wash your clothes every day. Why store it up into Mt. Washmore and then sort it into 5 loads. If you wash 1 or 2 loads a day you do not need to do much sorting. Folding right as you take it out of the dryer is so much simpler than leaving it standing in a bunch of laundry baskets or piled onto the bed. I like the idea of hanging up clothes that are delicate, but why not hang up all clothes to dry that you would hang up on hangers anyway after they are dry.

That saves the step of putting them in the dryer and taking them out again. I shake out the wrinkles, put them on plastic hangers and then hang them on the shower pole and in no time they are dry ready to hang in the closet. Voila, electricity and time are saved that load. Always looking for ways to simplify each task it the most important incentive to keeping organized.

Back when my kids were growing up I would keep a clothes basket in each of their rooms; one designated for "the bleach load", one the permanent-press load, one the towel load, one the jeans load. Then each load was washed on a certain day of the week. It also helped them learn how to sort laundry. Worked for me! ;o)
