Making Pantry Soup

This was a saver when we were low on groceries. We always had a variety of canned veggies on hand. You can make this soup with most anything from the pantry, except beets. For example, yu can use one can each of: green beans, peas, corn, tomatoes, carrots, potatoes (can use fresh), etc. Add onion soup mix if you want and/or 2 or 3 bouillon cubes. You can add more or less of any item. You can use fresh veggies if you have them. I also put in a bit of vegetable oil of some kind to give the broth a 'stocky' look. Just heat through or until bouillon cubes are dissolved.

We used to call this Refrigerator stew. Same premise only adding any leftovers and throwing in a can of tomatoes.

Thanks for the reminder of this easy and inexpensive meal.

Every time you brown meat of any kind, put a little bit in the freezer. Then when you make your pantry soup, you can add the browned meat and add a little more protein and heartiness to the pot.
