Buying Buckwheat Hulls for Pillows?

I'd love to make my own buckwheat pillows, similar to those used in Japan. They're made with buckwheat hulls. However, I'm having a hard time finding "reasonably priced" buckwheat hulls. I can't see spending a great deal of money on hulls.

Any suggestions out there you could share? I have the method, I just need either an idea on where to purchase buckwheat hulls for less or maybe even an alternative.

Thanks.

I found this:

Birkett Mills in Penn Yan, NY is probably the largest US producer of flattened buckwheat hulls for mulch (Mul TexTM). They also carry fluffy buckwheat hulls for pillows in 5 lb and 26 lb bags, as well as 5 lbs conveniently packaged in a pillowcase. P.O. Box. 440, Penn Yan, NY 14527. Buckwheathull.com offers cleaned US-grown hulls in 2-lb bags for
good luck.

I make shoulder pillow/bean-bags, fill them with rice & heat them in the microwave. The bags are a long tube divided into 3 compartments so that they will sit nicely on the shoulders. You could probably use a tube sock for a no-sew version. Tie it at the top.

I make mine out of muslin & then I make a cover out of fleece. This allows me to wash the cover as needed.

It's very important to heat your shoulder pillow a minute or 2 at a time. You don't want the rice to burn. On cold nights, I heat mine up & crawl under the covers--instant sleep.
