Fels Naphtha, the name, is over a century old, but the 'soap' has gone through changes, now owned by Dial. Beside the strong petrochemical perfume, it has turpentine ingredients and either does or did have Stoddard's solvent. The label warns you not to use it much on your hands.
If you need strong cleansing, from milder up are baking soda (bicarb), washing soda, and borax. All are cheap, probably less toxic than Fels, and not petrochemical.
Among commercial soaps, I'm told hunters swear by Kirk Coco Hardwater Castile, also cheap, because it doesn't carry a scent. It's owned by P&G.

Do you know when the ingredients were changed in Fels Naptha? I'm just trying to figure out if the bar I have is made with the old formula or the new one.
