Keep Children Entertained When Eating Out

Bronze Post Medal for All Time! 124 Posts

Try this to keep your children from getting restless while you wait for a restaurant order of food to arrive. One parent should go inside and place the order for everyone in the family. The children can play outside with the other parent, and when the order comes, all go inside. This makes life just that little bit less stressful.

Wow, that is a good idea!

What we do too at the Italian restaurant we like to go have pizza at is to call ahead to put in the pizza order. We arrive just before our piping hot pizza is delivered to the table. It's not only nicer for the kids but for us parents too!

My advice is to make your children understand how to have patients and wait for what they are there for. Children need to learn how to sit, behave, and entertain themselves without being a pain to everyone around them.

The earlier this is learned, the better for everyone, especially when they start school so their teacher can teach and not constantly have to watch an unruly child.

I agree with Lisa. What ever happened to making your children behave? Teach your children manners. Have some respect for the people around you. If they are that unruly, maybe they shouldn't be out in public.

I agree with Lisa and Linda, the same applies to going to church. I don't approve of putting kids in the nursery at church. There are too many kids now that don't know how to behave in public. I also don't see any object in some fast food places and restaurants having play areas in them.

Kids don't want to sit and eat their meals, all they want to do is get into the play area.

I could also add the little junky toys in the kiddie meals. The kids are so busy playing with the toy, that they don't eat. I used to work in a fast food place and was amazed at how some kids acted.

Kids must learn what is proper and acceptable in social situations.

I'm a Mother of grown children and two well behaved Grandsons. I disagree with most of the comments to her suggestion and think Monique has found a good solution for a problem if her children are young. Very young children cannot be expected to sit still for long periods of time! That's about like telling a baby he can't cry in public. And expecting a young child to sit through a long church sermon is expecting too much and rude to those others in the audience. When my children were young I kept them in the church auditorium for the sermon for a short period of time.

When they got restless I put them in the nursery. Gradually they were mature enough to sit thru the whole sermon and had very few problems. But yes, older children must be taught patience and how to behave in public. If they don't, then discipline is in order. Children learn by example and expecting very young children to behave in a manner contrady to their maturity is cruel and not good parenting in my opinion. My 2 cents worth.
