Use Your Vacuum for Fleas

Iif you are having a problem with fleas, put moth crystals in your sweeper bag. When you vacuum, it sucks up the fleas and their larvae. It kills the fleas and keeps the larvae from hatching. Change the bag often and be sure to bathe your pets to kill the fleas on them. If you do this regularly, vacuuming often it will take care of the fleas.

Please don't use moth balls or crystals in your vacuum or anywhere else! They are extremely toxic to all living things. You could use diatomaceous earth or salt instead.

If you have moth balls in your vacuum you will be exposing yourself and your family over and over again to the fumes which are toxic both to the fleas and to you.

I recently was at the vet and overheard the woman at the counter asking if she could just put down the powder product and vacuum up for fleas and be done with it... the answer was NO.

Unless your floors are 100% carpet everywhere - no laminate no hardwood no nothing else, fleas are more difficult to vacuum up even if you do vacuum daily! This is what the vet told the woman and what really stuck with me, think about the wood flooring in your house... say you manage to do the impossible and vacuum up all the floors in the carpet and on the floor... what happens next?

Basically you just got rid of only the "now" fleas... in a few months when the eggs hatch from under and in between the baseboards of your wooden flooring, you will have new fleas to vacuum. It's an endless cycle of daily vacuuming. This is why a veterinarian-grade flea-killer is the best defense against fleas.

PS. Flea collars have a "life expectancy" and need to be replaced over time!

Does this work if you have a canister vacuum?

You don't have to have a pet to get fleas. Drop a mothball or vacuum up some moth crystals in your sweeper bag to prevent any 'buggies' you may pick up in your sweeper. This will prevent them from 'nesting' in your sweeper bag.
