Shred Your Own Cheese

Pre-shredded cheese is expensive so I have come up with a cheaper way to have this convenience. When I buy a block of cheese, I go ahead and grate the whole thing. I then put the cheese in a gallon freezer zip lock bag with a rounded tablespoon of cornstarch.

Then I shake the bag so that it lightly coats the cheese. This keeps it from sticking together when you store it in the freezer. I keep mine in the freezer so that it will keep longer. It does not take long to thaw because it is in small shavings! I use it in salads, chili, tacos, etc. This is my all-time favorite tip!

Yes grated cheese is expensive and I too grate my own. Buy a block of cheese that will meet your needs and then freeze it, then grate it. The cheese will grate so much easier after it is frozen.
