Taking Care of Clematis

The theory that clematis like their feet cool and their head in the sun is true, so be sure to put several inches of mulch at the base of the vine.

Feed with liquid fertilizer throughout the growing season.

A newly planted clematis needs lots of water to get established especially if your planting it along a wall or fance, or there is a dry spell.

Clematis need good drainage. I put gravel down below a bit, then dirt etc.. Also shale rock is better than mulch - really keeps the heat out.

Does anyone know if there is a way to propagate clematis from a stem? (Or if there is any way to do so.) I have a fence that is ready and waiting!
