Uses for Ice Cube Trays

Instead of buying expensive drawer and cabinet organizers, use stackable ice cube trays to store spools of thread, snaps, and other sewing supplies as well as nails and other smaller hardware pieces.

Extra Ice Cube Trays
Post by Susan Sanders-Kinzel

I purchased some extra ice cube trays for freezing things OTHER than water. Freeze kool-aid, juices, leftover sauces. Just place in a labeled freezer bag after frozen, and they can be used one at a time.

I like frozen koolaid cubes in my lemonade. It gives it a great flavor.

I made my own babyfood when my kids were little. I put the food in an ice cube tray and froze it. Once frozen, pop them out and put them in a zip lock freezer back. When it's time for little one to eat, grab a cube of whatever you want to serve them. This makes great individual servings.

I have one in my top dresser drawer. It is a great little catcher for earrings, necklaces that I wear too often to put in the jewelry box.

I also have an old one that I use to hold craft paints when I am working on a project. When I am done just rinse well and let dry.

Make summer dog treats - I put beef or chicken broth in the tray and add a secret treat in the middle- a cube of dried liver or some other small treat. My two dogs love them- cool and tasty!

Put your favorite drink in the ice cube tray (orange juice, koolaid, etc). Cover the tray with Saran Wrap (plastic wrap). Poke toothpicks thru the plastic and into the liquid. Freeze. Later, the little kids have a nice little popsicle!

Fill the slots with fresh herbs then water and freeze. Then put the individual herb packets into a freezer bag and use as needed. I grow fresh basil and a few others in the summer. There is so much I won't use right away. But freezing them saves them for the winter months, or if I just don't feel like going to the herb garden.

I use ice cubes trays for leftover red or white wine. It's fast and easy to pop in a couple of cubes when I'm cooking my favorite dishes.

I use mine to freeze my own fruit for smoothies, like pineapple, or sliced strawberries. It takes up a lot less room in the freezer than a cookie sheet, they are stackable, and the fruit doesn't get all stuck together.

Substitute for 7 Day Pill Boxes
Post by Susan Sanders-Kinzel
I had one of those plastic pill containers with sections for different days of the week. I gave it away since I wasn't using it. Now I need one but don't have one. I've found I can use an ice cube tray the same way. Just use the first seven cubes. It's working fine.

When I was making bath bombs, I used my fruit-shaped ice cube trays as moulds ^_^

If you are a home gardener, recycle ice cube trays to make great seed starters.

Freeze leftover coffee or tea to use to cool off a cup when it is way to hot ! you could add a raspberry or mint leaf to the tea cube so regular ice doesn't water it down !
yum ! pretty !

I freeze cookie dough in mine..one cookie in each, then I pop out what I need, thaw and bake a whole sheet in the oven or a few in the toaster oven. I am having surgery in a couple of days, so wanted something quick and easy for the kids (besides, ready made cookie dough is using macadamia nut flour for choco chip: I am allergic!)

I also freeze juice (grape or apple) if it is sitting too long in the fridge, then we add it to juice or the kids' water cups for extra flavor. We also did the baby food thing too!

I use Ice Trays to store my earrings in. They are a perfect size. Each compartment holds a pair thus 12 pair per ice tray. They stack so all of your gold ones goes into one and all the silver ones goes into another and all the colors can be sorted and easily found and stored. It works great !!!

How about using them for change. Maybe lunch money for the kids' lunch, bus fare, for a soda, the ice cream man, newspaper, or holding small things like baby nail clips, or even regular finger nail clips, Avon used to give out small sample lipsticks about 3/4" in lenght, those would fit, too.

Ice cube trays, such a good topic. Look at all those ideas. I am ready to rush out and buy more trays.
Thanks to all.
