On apples and cukes and potatoes that I leave skin on, I use a sprinkle of baking soda and plain water. I just use my hands to "scrub" and then rinse.

I wash all fruits and vegetables with soap and water! I fill the sink and wash them like you would your dishes. I love to eat the skins on potatoes, so I scrub them well. Rinse and dry. I figure if you wash and rinse your dishes, what harm can there be in cleaning your food the same way?

Vinegar is good and when I can I use antibacterial dishwashing detergent and water.

I just rinse them with water. If I am making mashed potatoes I just peel them or for bake I just scrubbed with a brush if too much dirt is on them.

Washing Produce

When purchasing fresh produce from the grocery stores, wash well before eating. The following items are the highest in pesticides: Apples, Bell Peppers, Celery, Cherries, Chile Peppers, Imported Grapes, Nectarines, Peaches, Pears, Raspberries, Strawberries and Tomatoes.

Washing Produce (Fruits and Vegetables)

Hi Terri,

Good reminder since this is the season for wonderful fruit. I also read to wash melons, as the pesticides will get on the knife when slicing. In the summer I shop at the Farmer's Market since they are all organic but still will rinse my produce.
