Recycling House Batteries?

I am trying to find where I can turn in our house batteries. We are told not to put in the garbage, but our landfill/recycling location does not take them.

Here's info from the city of Tampa website:

Batteries: Button and nickel cadmium batteries from cell phones etc should be taken to a participating store such as Radio Shack, Target, Home Depot etc., or to a Household Chemical Collection event.

You could call one of the stores to make sure they actually take them.

Best Buy stores have bins right inside the front door for batteries and other recyclable items.

In our town, we have two large item or hazardous item pickups per year from the garbage company. That is when they encourage the throw away of batteries.

Go to earth911.com and type in - single use batteries and your zip code. It should give you facilities close to you to dispose of them.
Good luck, grtdnm
