Returning Shine to No Wax Flooring?

My kitchen floor is about 10 years old and it is that no wax flooring. It doesn't look really great anymore. I try everything to clean it to make it look shiny again, but nothing works and I do not want to use wax. Anyone have any ideas?

I use the over the counter 'mop and shine' type products, keeping a cheap sponge mop for that product only. It makes my floors look great when I use it. Mine are about 10 years old, and have been walked all over with shoes, sand, grit, dogs, etc.

It doesn't last long, but is much better than looking at dull floors, and a whole lot better than waxing.

This post is from 2011. It's hard to know if the person is still involved with ThriftyFun to send in a picture.

Good luck with your floor and please let us know what finally works.

My floors are so old God walked on them! I use only natural products! My dogs, when they were alive used to lick my floors, eat treats off them. Would you want your pets licking those nasty chemicals?

I use I gallon HOT water 1/2cup vinegar and a few drops of Dr Bronner's 18-1 Hemp Rose Pure Castile Soap. My floor looks amazing and my house smells divine!

Forgot to add the last step! Take a cloth with jojoba oil and rub into your floors for a beautiful shine! A little goes a long way for a natural shine!

Does this give vinyl flooring a good shine and if so is it slippery?

Yes, use WD40 on it. It really works. I found this out a year ago and I investigated it it's true. Message me and I will send you a picture of my floors.

Do you just sprad the wd-40 on with a mop?

WD40 is a great lubricant but I would not advise using it willy nilly on floors, it contains distillate, a highly flamable liquid and not something that should be used in a not well ventilated confined space like a room, certainly not with children or pets around.

My house has been totally remodled with new vinyl flooring. After mopping a couple of times it's lost it's shine.

I have tried vinegar and Dawn. Being a single lady I can't afford to spend a lot. Any suggestion?

Total bull!! WD-40 is fish oil. You could drink it if you felt so inclined. And what is " distillate"? Distillate is a process, not a product. It would , however, make vinyl plank flooring slippery.

WD-40 is not fish oil, it is a proprietary blend so the ingredients are not listed but it has a petroleum base. I would definitely not recommend drinking it. The company's website has the MSDS and it clearly states "IF SWALLOWED: Immediately call a POISON CENTER or physician. Do NOT induce vomiting"

Here is a Wikipedia page with more information about the product:

Doesn't that make the tile slippery, we are an elderly couple who don't get around very well, so that is always a concern. My bedroom, bath room hall and kitchen are done in new vinyl tile which has very little shine.
