Is being spayed by a skunk harmful to dogs? Two of my dogs was sprayed but I think one was sprayed in the mouth she was drooling really bad and foaming when it happened?

The safest thing is to call the local vet. They will tell you for certain, even if you aren't a client. However, I'm quite certain the answer is 'no'. They can cause temporary blindness, but flushing with water will help that. The whole defense of it is the odor. If it were needed to be poisonous, I'm betting God wouldn't have made it stink so bad. :) Remember that skunks are carnivors, so if they aren't living under your porch or something like that - they're keeping the mice population down. Mice come in for the winter, skunks don't.
If your dog gets sprayed. Immediately wash his body down with water and vinegar (mild) and or tomato juice and even peroxide or even soap and water. Keep it away from the face though. Just flush and flush that face with water. I got sprayed by a skunk as a child and it is painful.
I DEFINITELY AGREE WITH NOT KILLING THE SKUNKS...EVERY ANIMAL ON EARTH SERVES A PURPOSE..THEY ARE ALL GOD'S CREATURES IN WHICH WE NEED TO RESPECT.
My dog got sprayed by a skunk tonight. I took the persons advice above and called the 24hr vet. The nearest one is about 40 miles from me. The vet said no, it is not harmful, but very very uncomfortable. She said to flush the dogs eyes, and wash him with soap or shampoo. To flush the eyes, the vet suggested just to put the dog in the shower, and hold his eyes open with your fingers.
I must disagree. My trip colored pitbul was sprayed and died three months later due to Methemoglobinemia. People need to be educated in this subject. I'm on a mission to do just that. Thank you.
Skunk spray can be harmful to dogs. If the dog is sprayed in the mouth or eyes. Contact a vet immediately when this happens.
My late friend, Lola, used to have a dog that hated skunks. She chained it up, but if a skunk came by he'd break the chain and off he'd go. He killed them, but they usually got him first. He eventually went blind and a little nutty after about 50 skunks. I strongly recommend shooting or relocating the skunks. They are prolific and a terrible nuisance.

My dog found in 2 days and killed 2 baby skunks. He has been very thirsty, good appetite, however at times during the evening he getsvto panting and breathing heavy even though he has not been exercising. He is immunized in last year. I was hoping his system was working simething through his system.
My dogs were sprayed last night. I wondered how they could both get it at the same time? Well I just viewed a short video. The skunk has 2 holes that shoot the spray, one aimed slightly left and the other aimed slightly to the right. I figure, my dogs had time to sniff the skunks butt because they both got sprayed in their eyes, nose and mouth.
They both were foaming at the mouth and their jaws were locked shut. I couldn't opened them for several minutes. One dog's eye swelled shut. Both dogs were dazed, totally stunned, just out of it. That lasted a few minutes. I immediately got a wash cloth & with warm soapy dripping water washed the dogs eyes, face several times & I used a plain wet cloth to the inside of their mouths to try and help get the junk out. They both wouldn't eat or drink for a while.
They drooled the foamy skunk mess all over the carpet. I have skunk smell lodged in my nose. I even got a soapy wash cloth and tried to wash the smell away from the inside of my nostrils! One more tip, sprinkle scented baking soda on the carpets, dog beds etc. My dogs were rubbing their face all over the place. Washing the carpets tomorrow. I was also told to make sure the dogs have good pink color on their gums If pale/white rush to the doctor.
My friend's Yorkie just died a few days after inhaling skunk spray. He was only 6 years old. Vomiting. Not able to eat or drink.
It is 2:50 am and my birthday. Happy freaking birthday to me! 2nd night I am awaken but this horrible horrible smell. I am sure there are hanging out underneath our porch, which is fine, I don't care, but why spray? The smell gets through the vents and its evenly distributed throughout the house. I love animals, i really do but gee, if i had a gun right now.
I put moth balls under my deck and porches to deter the skunks. It seems to work. Neighbors seem to get them, but I don't. Of course, please keep moth balls away from children and pets.
