Oatmeal Wheat Germ Dog Biscuits

Bronze Post Medal for All Time! 172 Posts

This is a good recipe if you like to spoil your dog with healthy treats. Or, it can be used as a great hostess gift for someone who has a dog.

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups whole wheat or rye flour
  • 3 cups oatmeal
  • 1/2 cup regular wheat germ
  • 6 Tbsp. bacon drippings or margarine
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 1 cup evaporated milk
  • 1 cup water

Directions:

Mix together all the dry ingredients. Add remaining ingredients and blend until well mixed. Dough will be stiff.

Chill for 1/2 hour. Then either take teaspoons of dough and form into balls and flatten on greased cookie sheet -OR- roll dough out on floured board and cut into dog bone shapes. The number of servings is determined by how large or small you make them.

Bake these at 300F degrees for 1 hour. Check before and if they are dried out, take them out.

Note: I have used all the can of evaporated milk and 1/2 cup water - your dog will not care.

If I had a doggie I would certainly make these treats, but then again, I have a neighbor friend who has a dog named Samson so maybe I'll make some for him. :-)
