Profile For Glenn'sMom - Super Mom in Disguise

I'm a non-working teacher, mother of three boys, grandmother of 1 girl (finally!), and wife of the best man on the earth today.  I enjoy cooking, sewing, and a bit of gardening.  I was born and raised on Mississippi but moved to Oregon 23 years ago and love it.  I have a fat doxie and a sleek cat.  We live on a 160 acre farm and my husband grows hay and cows.  I try to stay out of the way!

RE: Freeze Cupcakes Without Frosting
I do this for use at home. If I make a cake we'll nibble and nibble ourselves out of our clothes (they'll get too tight!!) so I freeze cupcakes and take out 2 at a time for a meal and we are able to fend off temptation when we know we'll have to wait for another one to thaw. ... RE: Surviving Family Thanksgiving
Boy, you struck a nerve here didn't you!? So many responses!

I'd give her the benefit of the doubt with the cats. Maybe she's making mountains out of mole hills but just be a good and gracious hostess and put the cats away for the day, even if they have to go to a kennel. Your husband will greatly appreciate your effort to placate his mother and you'll feel like the "bigger" person.

Just be terribly thankful you don't have to live with her if she's just liking to fight and DO NOT be away from your husband on holidays! Tell her you've taken care of the cat problem and then it's up to her if she wants to come or not but you and your husband are now a family and must be together. Neither one of you is a kid who HAS to go home for Thanksgiving so stick to your plans and stick together. A combined 36 years of marriage has taught me that much! ... View related article.

RE: Bleach Bottle Alternative for Santa Door Decoration
When we were making apple juice we purchased gallon jugs from the local water bottling plant. These should work as well as bleach botles. ... View related article.

RE: Older Dog Frightened and Aggressive with New Puppy
What breed is the new puppy? I think if they're both small dogs they'll eventually begin to play. I recently got an 8 month Schipperke which is the most hyper dog I've ever seen in my life (I've seen and worked with thousands!) and my 5 year old doxie reacted the same way for awhile. Now, 2 months later, they play and roll and tumble and nibble on each other. It's actually been good for the older dog because before all she did was lay on the couch or follow me around. I think if you give it some time they'll be good buddies.

I also think the idea of holding your yorkie and maybe having somebody bring the puppy close so they can both be contained and let them "visit" while they're held will help them become used to each other. ... View related article.

RE: Cat Won't Use Litter Box
Some questions come to mind:

Is this the only cat? Some won't share boxes.

Is it kept clean? Cats don't like dirty boxes.

Was this an outside cat that you're trying to convert? Some adult cats won't change.

Does the cat have a regular place it DOES use? You might need to cover that place, because cats like to go back to the same spot.

Just some stuff to think about. ... View related article.

RE: Care Credit For Expensive Vet Bills
This doesn't address your question, but I had to respond. If you're being told that a vaccination and first well pet check is $109.00, you need to find another vet. Call some more. This is unreasonable! ... View related article.

RE: Cooking With Fresh Pumpkins
I use whatever pumpkins I can find. Some are "pie pumpkins" and some are for carving. I think the pie ones are probably sweeter but I can't really tell the difference. ... View related article.

RE: Cooking With Fresh Pumpkins
Finally a question that I know the answer to! I bake fresh pumpkins all the time because that's the only way my family likes pumpkin. None of that canned stuff for them!

I cut the pumpkin into wedges (like an apple), scoop all the insides out (seeds, etc,), put it all into a roasting pan and add a little water to the bottom. Cover the pan and roast until tender. I think I set the oven at about 350. How long it will take depends on how small the pieces are. When the pumpkin is fork tender hold it skin side down in one hand and scrape the "meat" out with a spoon held in the other hand. Use a potato masher to mash up the meat or you can use a food processor but I find this makes it too mushy for our taste. I pack it into freezer bags in 4 cups to the bag. This fits my recipe for 2 pies. there's no need to make only one pie for my guys! ... View related article.

RE: Improving Self Confidence
This is an add on to my comment of yesterday.

I see that redhatterb has really had an abusive husband. Mine isn't like that...just often times correcting me and my actions. It would depend greatly on how he (yours) acts as to how you should handle it. Seems people are labeling almost every negative thing now a days as abusive. Calling names and saying really hurtful things, especially in public, is certainly abusive. If yours is the lesser type you can laugh it away (sometimes) or apologize profusely for making yet another mistake and help him to realize he's "doing it again." Only you know just how "abusive" he truly is. ... View related article.
