Green Apple Monsters

Green Apple Monsters - 4 apple monsters including two with jam instead of peanut butter
Aren't these little monsters adorable? They're mostly fruit, so you won't feel too bad munching on them. Play around with their teeth and eye spacing to give them each some character. After slicing the apples, this would be a great edible craft for kids. Have fun!

Total Time: 1 hour

Yield: 4-5 monsters per apple

Green Apple Monsters - supplies

  1. Cut apples in half, then cut into 4-5 equal segments. If you're making several at one time, sprinkle with lemon juice so they don't go brown.
  2. Green Apple Monsters - cut apples in half and then into equally sized segments
  3. Peel off the core bits. Cut a small segment out of each apple wedge to create the monster's open mouth.
  4. Green Apple Monsters - cut away core, then cut a small wedge for the mouth in each section
  5. Swipe the inside with peanut butter, then pierce the inside of the mouths with sunflower seeds as teeth. For variation, I put strawberry jam in some of the mouths instead of peanut butter.
  6. Green Apple Monsters - coat inside of wedge cut out with peanut butter and stick in sunflower seeds as teeth
  7. To make the tongues, thinly slice the strawberries.
  8. Green Apple Monsters - cut strawberry into thin slices for tongues
  9. Cut each mini marshmallow in half to make eyes.
  10. Green Apple Monsters - cut mini marshmallows in half to make the eyes
  11. Place each marshmallow half on a toothpick, then add a dot of black gel in the center to make pupils.
  12. Green Apple Monsters - attach marshmallow halves to toothpicks and add a dot of black decorating gel for the puplis
  13. Pierce the eyes into the top of the apple, then place a slice of strawberry in the mouth. Remove toothpicks before devouring!
  14. Green Apple Monsters - stick eyes on and add slice of strawberry for the tongue
