Try nail polish. We used to paint pop tabs and lace them on our shoes in middle school and nail polished seemed to do the trick! Its a good way to use up old polish or old colors, plus you get a nice glossy finish! Or use clear or a natural finish!

I would take a picture of the signature before you do anything .. then youd still have a copy of it. I think the clear polish would work .. I dont know if it would help with fading though. Try emailing or calling Sharpie and see if they have any suggestions...

Saddle soap is just that a soap .. there are no dyes in it so it will not change the color of the leather .. just get the dirt out and condition the leather, making it softer I would use a bit of rubbing alcohol on a paper towel or clean rag to remove the tape...
