June is the best month for rooting most plants. Now, as to the purpose of this post. It's not a tip nor a bragging post. It is to offer a word of encouragement. To those of you who would say 'I don't have a green thumb, I can't root anything', my reply is, 'Nonsense'!

Use Shrimp Water for Watering PlantsI made some luscious sesame panko shrimp recently. I soaked the frozen raw shrimp in plain water until defrosted before I breaded them. I saved the shrimpy water and poured about 1/4 cup of it into each of my plants out front.

Rooting A Single Rose LeafI was inserting some rose cuttings in a medium when, a single, small leaf fell off and down to the medium. I said, 'Why not'? There was 3 or 4 millimeters of tiny stem attached to the leaf. I carefully inserted the first 3 into the medium. Whether this results in a new rose bush, is doubtful. But we shall see.

Growing Daisy and DianthusI started about 10 plants from seed in August. Then in September, I planted them, they didn't flower yet. This spring 50 plants came up. They are just beautiful. This was a nice filler for a big empty spot.

Flypaper around feeder hanger
Flypaper for Keeping Ants out of...I have tried "everything" over the years to keep ants out of my hummingbird feeders without success, but have finally solved this problem. As soon as the weather warmed up they arrived in great numbers. I used a wire to hang the feeder, and then twisted an old fashioned fly strip around the wire above the feeder.

Keep Pictures For Saved Seed ReferenceEven though I'm frugal minded and sometimes pay as little as 10 cents for a 6 cell pack of flowers, many of my discounted purchases turn out to be quite nice. Sadly, there's no guarantee I'll be able to find those same flowers next year, even at regular price.

Shade Potted Plants with UmbrellasWe have very little shade. For our potted plants, we bought umbrellas at Dollar Tree and broke the bottom off. When it's too hot and sunny we put them up, in each pot, over the plants.

Planting Tomatoes
Planting TomatoesPlant from sibling as early as possible in large flower pot. When the temperature is nice set the plant outside. Bring it in before evening. A week after blossoms appear, sprinkle with a little fertilizer (do not sprinkle close to the stem) and give a lot of water.
