We have done this several times. Wash the old tile with bleach and if there is still smell, paint with kilz. Then lay down your vinyl. Works well and adds a little extra insulation.
Freeze Pantyhose To Make Them Last
I agree with coville123 on freezing pantyhose to make them last. I have even been able to dye them to match an outfit after freezing them. They last and last.

Use contact paper. Make sure surface is really clean when you apply the paper. It will last a long time. The downside is its hard to get off when you want to re-do it.
