You can use a water and bleach solution and a scrub brush. I do not think there is a way to prevent it from coming back. You may want to check with a log home supply center to check if they have a solution that will not harm plants. Good luck!

I buy oatmeal as well. I use brown sugar and cinnamon to falvor it. It holds the kids over longer than cereal and is alot cheaper and cooks in about 3 minutes.
