Never, ever use bug killer anywhere near your feeder. If the bug does get thru it, it carries the toxin on its body right into the feeder holes and into the nectar. I want to keep my hummy food free of any chemicals manufactured to kill insects.
Keeping Ants Away From Bird Feeder
I have a feeder that came with its own moat but these large black ants just wiggle and swim thru the water to the outside edge of the moat and climb down the feeder. I have tried vaseline and vicks salve on the hangar arm but to no avail. So frustrating!!
