Retired, I live with my husband in the beautiful mountains of North Carolina. By Western mountain standards, the heights, and ruggedness can't compare, but it's green and rolling view is inspiring. We love nature, and do what we can to preserve it's beauty.

Our neighborhood is a wooded cove, and our house sits at about 4,200 ft. up the mountain. The top is about 5,000 feet. As the area is wooded, and wild, we have the flora and fauna that you would expect: deer, black bear, coyotes, etc. We also have wild edibles: blackberries, high-bush blueberries, apples left from an old orchard. We have spent much time cultivating and picking the wild blueberries that we are fortunate enough to have right in our yard. Our cove has many excellant patches of blackberries that we have picked. There is nothing like having summer fruit all winter long.
