Do take a serious look at how much stuff really needs to be on the top of your desk - if youre not using it say, twice a week, its taking up prime real estate and should be in a drawer! :)
Salsa Roja Recipe?
I might suggest looking for smoked paprika - its a wonderful smelling addition to many dishes and has that burnt/barbeque flavor youre describing. A little goes a long way!
