By happy accident the other day, whilst saving money making my own candied citrus peel for the upcoming festive baking frenzy, I 'discovered' a fantastic new cleaning product. It is fragrant, non-abrasive, chemical free and, best of all, FREE! It cleans and degreases most surfaces very effectively.

Extending Candle Life and Cleaning CandleholdersA great way to extend the life of a candle is by putting it in the freezer for a day right before you use it. Keeping the wax cool will make it burn slowly. When you're done burning the candle and you're left with a waxy mess on your candleholder, pop the holder in the freezer for about an hour, then you can chip the wax right off.

Seasoning a Cast Iron Pan with Crisco.
Seasoning Cast Iron PansCast iron will last for generations if properly cared for. A properly seasoned pan will be non-stick and will clean up very easily. After washing, I warm up the pan on my stovetop. I then use Crisco on a paper towel to rub all over the pan.

A Slurpee straw being used to remove lotion from a bottle.
Slurpee Straw Saver and CleanerA while ago, I saw a product on "Shark Tank" that was a tiny spatula tip on a long stick. It was used to clean out the last of the lotion in tall bottles. I was doing the dishes this morning and came across some Slurpee spoon-tip straws and realized they could be used for the same thing.

Drying Shoes Without the BangingI thought of this because I hate that banging sound of athletic shoes slamming around in the dryer. It's pretty simple as the pictures show. You need a long mesh laundry bag. This one is 2-3 feet long.

Pumice Stone for Removing Calcium BuildupOur cast iron bathtub is 50 years old and I have no plans of parting with it. When the water drains out of the tub, there is a spot near the drain where a little water settles and over the years, a brown circle developed in that area and I could not scrub it off. It was hard calcium buildup.

Cut Vinyl Shower Curtain to Prevent MoldI always make sure to cut the bottom edge off, where it has a hem. The hem collects moisture and it's almost impossible to keep it clean, even with bleach. Cut the bottom right along the top of the hem. Don't worry, it won't fray since it's vinyl.

Dish gloves that have been doubled up.
Double Up Dish GlovesWhen the good dish gloves wore through, I had another pair of the other. I put the other ones inside the good ones and now I have a pair that still gives me the protection I need, no leaks, and double the thickness.
